BIO-Spira as soon as it is set up and fish the next day.

If you have another tank going you can steal the nitrifying bacteria from there. Run the new filter in an existing tank while you wait. Add several scoops of dirty substrate from the old tank.

If you have another Penquin 350 running on an established tank.switch out one of the bio wheels

if the gravel is dufferent and you don't wanna mix just ust some womens stockings filled with the established gravel and use all allowable water from other tank if you have one. Do that with the old filters and put like two of your toughest fish (like convicts if you had them) in there too. You want the bacteria to have some ammonia to feed on and this is where the fish come into play. just don't feed them. if you did all four or five of these things it should only take like 36 hours without Bio-Spira. and that's on the safe side. cycling is only ard if you have no other tank to mooch off of.

very Funny fourdell lol Goldfish bowl lmao.
hey mike so when should i start feeding the fish?? u mention not to feed them.
and what about putting my convicts fry ??
they just hatch and in about a week are going to be up and swiming?

so is it ok if i do all u said and add the Bio-Spira?
thanx alot for ur help

Bio-spira may run you $20-30 USD.

If you have alot of bacteria to steal you won't need the bio-spira.

Unless you happen to have women's stockings (I won't tell anyone)...you can just put some dirty gravel into a five gallon bucket with water, stir, and add the soupy mix to the new tank...not the mis-matched gravel.

So u saying i can just add anything from my old 30 gallon tank to the 130 gallon and that will add some bacteria to the tank??
Jerry Goebert » posted 2007/07/07 04:14 am
Yes. Since the new tank is SO much bigger, I would add as much substrate soup as you can though.
Juan Damelines » posted 2007/07/07 04:21 am
ok i can handle that.
what about switching the 30 galons Bio wheel to the 130 new filter it uses a bio wheel 2?

Juan, you can also go get a sponge filter and a power head and run it in an established tank for a week or so and then move it into the new tank when it is set up. Sponges are great becuae they can always be used in a new tank and when seasoned will make for smooth sailing from day one. I always try to have an extra one running in one of my tanks for that reason. My favorite is the Hydro Sponge, its a great product and easy to google and find on line if its not available locally. The other ideas are all good as well.

Jerry, I was thinking of switching from gravel in my 44 corner to marine sand. I was worried ofit clogging my filters. Is this ok?
Chris Gibbs » posted 2007/07/12 09:46 pm
Juan, nice tank! When are going to get the mermaid to swim in it?

Marc Ryan » posted 2007/07/13 04:33 am
Not Escondido, just a regular Carpinte. He/she is a little hog, just the other day i nabbed five of my brothers juvie Cons and added them to his tank. Within 30 secs he was munching one down and ate all bar one overnight, he's still alive. I'll snap a pic of him for ya. The Festae are doing great.

I just used this site's browse by TOP RATED feature....this EMPTY tank is rated number one. I think that's odd..
Javier Krutki » posted 2007/07/20 08:54 am
Just use ur penguin 200 in the 130G and the 400 in the 30G for a while, but make sure to use ammonia remover....If u want you can add some bacteria that you can buy in your LFS for $5.Then you can add the fish the next day. I did it when I change from one 130 to a 250G and with around 25 big fish with not problem at all.

Ain't that a hoot Jerry. The worst is someone doesn't sound good enough to keep it right. Someone needs to show him a wet/dry syestem. Lots of luck. Your going to have a ball.
