Quick Question, would this work as a CRS tank if planted?
Quick Question, would this work as a CRS tank if planted?
I am thinking about completely re-vamping the tank, possibly removing both side panels and just leaving the back and planting the tank. Do you think this would work for a CRS shrimp tank?

yeah i hope it all works out. I want to keep a pair of Tanganicodus irsacae but i am not sure if it will work out in here, seein it is a small tank, but i have read that they will do good in small tanks so long as they have enough oxygen, which this tank will have a powerhead for a 55gallon tank and a hob 10-20gallon.

Great job Tang O. What size tank is this and how much space did you lose by putting in this type of background?

It started out as a 10 gallon.. I wanted to do a small tank incase i fudged up on it. I lost nearly an in on each side so I am guessing it is about 8 gallones now with too much filtration lol.

I just don't know what type of filtration I would/should use with a shrimp tank.

the size is fine tang. use a sponge filter and keep up on water changes, which i'm sure you already do. the tank should be pretty well established, crs are proned to nitrate poisoning. can't wait to see it, good luck!!

oh, the more live plants the better!

i use a sponge filter on my red cherry shrimp tank aswell., if you use a hob filter the shrimp will get sucked up. also shrimp like a still tank with not much water movement.and like zac said, the more plants the better.

I already have a pair of cherry shrimp in a .5 gallon vase at work with an anubias, a sprig of rotala and a clump (golfball size) of javamoss. I put them in there with no filtration and standard work lights and the plants are doing great and the female is berried. I am getting 4 crystal reds and 4 crystal blacks and I will either use this tank or an 8 gallon rimless or construct my own tank. (10" cube tank)
