Ah I guess this answers my ?? on which tank goes in the wall.. U didn't say that on your OTHER post.. Where are U placing the 10 gal?? Keep the pics coming!!

The 29 gal is going in the wall, and the 10 gal will be on a stand, on the other side of the wall, underneath the 29. They are both a few feet away (reachable by 6 foot hose) from my laundry/slop sink for easy access to water and drainage, which I figure is good for breeding/fry setups. :)

I have found that bigger growout tanks after ONE month in a smaller tank helps them to grow faster.. I start them in a 15 or 20gal for ONE month, then a 29 gal for two months, then a 55 gal until they are sold/traded.. Seems to work for me but not everyone has the tank space and it depends on how many fry U have to start with.. Under 20 works good, anything over that amount and U need to move them to a bigger tank sooner.. In a 10 gal NO gravel to help keep it cleaner and water changes every 4 days of 40%. I would spray paint the bottom a dark color so they dont' get confussed on bottom/top as it does reflect the top in the bottom glass. FYI here.. I need to do my 15 and 20gal..

Hey GM if your choice fo breeding cichlids in a 55gal would you do Severums, Blue acara, port acara, or Acarichthys heckelli,,oh yeah or geophagus? I can't decide between these.

Humm. heck of a choice. NOW it is not the spawing that is the problem on tank size, it is housing all those fry, 150+ for several months!! So U really need a seperate tank for the parents and move them and probibly use a divider or they wil spawn again.. So a 55gal for any of the above will work but another 55 gal to house the parents in wil be needed.. Or bigger depending on your tank space.. It is easier to remove the parents than 100+ small fry.. FYI.. This is why I have 4 -55 gal tanks.. So ANY of the above wil do fine in a 55 gal, but U need another tank IF not more to house the fry as they grow.. Yea, welcome to fish keeping!!

hmmmmm or any others you would suggest for a 55gal? I would really like one's that maybe would take care of their own brood for awhile, then my LFS will take at any stage

Michelle, why not find yourself a nice pair 5-6" fish to breed - nothing huge, and then if things get out of hand and aggressive, you can put a tank divider in and give the fry 1/3 of the tank. I would go to he LFS, and find out what they would prefer in that size range - so you know they will take them. Maybe Rainbows?

GM - Yes, the 10 gal will be bare for fry, and I dont have space for another medium sized tank, but I'm going to build this stand to accomodate two 10s side by side, should I need the space for fry, or need to use one 10gal as a hospital tank. Someone offered me a free 20 tall complete setup, but we'll see if that actually happens.
