since this pic, i changed the set-up a little and added a new light..

very good, natural looking tank, and choice of fish, not sure about your livebreeders though, if they survive, I never had lack when kept swordtails, etc with Convicts. They just fade out in a while. Probobly get intemidated by larger/aggro fish.
anyways good luck man.
Chris Shirrel » posted 2007/04/14 - 15:03
beautiful tank Chuck, I like your choice of fish, espeically the use of Swordtails which are native to the same areas of the Cichlids you selected
THE chuck » posted 2007/04/14 - 15:31
swords mostly stays on top...the worst damages the convicts inflict is a rapid, quick ,1 seconde chase...but a pair has spawn,4 days ago, with now free swimming fry, and they really became pain in the a$$...im gonna leave only one male in there and remove the pair( there is 3 males, one female)
Alex Odesit » posted 2007/04/14 - 15:38
yea, these convicts are pain, I only keep them with larger fish, and still they trying hard to establish they own territory.
Chris Shirrel » posted 2007/04/14 - 15:40
I wouldnt worry too much about the Convicts except their ability to fill the tank with their young ...
Byron Rogers » posted 2007/04/14 - 15:43
Beautiful. Those will be very happy fish you'll be keeping there. You've given me a few ideas for my Central American/Madagascan 90 gallon tank.

hello...lol
Jeff Huebner » posted 2007/04/14 - 20:54
BTW, Nice tank Chuck!!
Cichlid Storm » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:41
oh and chuck, i like the tank, the black water gives the natural appeal, and the decor is of natural environment to these species. 4 thumbs up, okay 2 thumbs and 2 big toes because i don't have 4 thumbs.
Roberto Gutierrez » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:43
man... you know what would perfectly fit there? cichlasoma managuense! excellent type of tank
Cichlid Storm » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:45
yes robert, if he removed everything else from the tank. other wise, it would be caviar for dinner.
John Young » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:45
Very Nice!
Roberto Gutierrez » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:47
lol, well actually yeah... but the decoration is perfect or those fishes
Cichlid Storm » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:50
yup, But thats primarily why i don't deal in much for S.A.'s because of their aggression, I enjoy being able to maintain a large multi community tank.
Roberto Gutierrez » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:52
well thats better, having a community tank
Cichlid Storm » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:55
absolutely, constant movement, no aggression, and awesome colors. IMO its the best way to have a tank.
Roberto Gutierrez » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:57
mr cichlids.. is cichlasoma panamense a aggressive species?
Cichlid Storm » posted 2007/04/15 - 00:59
true gene or neetroplus gene? but the Jagged Tooth can be very very aggressive, is actually pretty docile most of the time.
Cichlid Storm » posted 2007/04/15 - 01:00
they are part of the texas family so they can be aggressive, but the true gene is the most docile gene of the family.
Roberto Gutierrez » posted 2007/04/15 - 01:05
ok thanks

THE chuck » posted 2007/04/15 - 02:41
thanks guys for all your good comments...im flattered,..Alex, on this tank ,there`s a 48in powerglo and a 42ìn aquaglo, both 40w.
spencer renteria » posted 2007/04/15 - 02:48
since all the best fish finatics are here do you guys think i can keep a managuense with a nandopsis haitensis
THE chuck » posted 2007/04/15 - 02:58
yes, surely in 300 gal and +
Marc Ryan » posted 2007/04/15 - 02:58
In how many gallons?
spencer renteria » posted 2007/04/15 - 05:02
sorry mark i skipped your question. i have a jag right now and in a couple months i will get a 150 is that big enough for the black nasty too
Marc Ryan » posted 2007/04/15 - 05:07
No mate, an adult male Haiti will lay claims to 150g as his own.
spencer renteria » posted 2007/04/15 - 05:10
aaa well i will just get a big goldfish and see if that works lol, dont worry about it vato ill just keep my jag in it
Marc Ryan » posted 2007/04/15 - 05:14
You'll be able to house others with Jag.
spencer renteria » posted 2007/04/15 - 05:16
just curious but who grows bigger the nasty or the jag and what size does the nasty need
Marc Ryan » posted 2007/04/15 - 05:26
They're roughly the same size with males reaching 14-16" and females about 12". You could probably house a pair of Haiti's in a 150g with a divider on standby.
spencer renteria » posted 2007/04/15 - 05:31
thanks marc ill think i should just save up some money for some big oscars instead, thanks.

MoonIn Pisces » posted 2007/04/16 - 15:49
Love the tank. I am a week and a half into my cycle now, no new pics.. Still trying to decide on americans, africans, or non cichlid asian fish.. Oh, and, arguing on the internet is definately a sign of intelligence. Stars for all you big studs! hehe RELAX you fishheads!

Chris Shirrel » posted 2007/04/16 - 22:43
sounds awesome Nathan ... any idea what you are going to put in it?
Nathan Sederholm » posted 2007/04/16 - 22:47
Well, I'm going to just transfer what I got right now. Mostly African, some South American. Mine are babies anyways so they will need the room. But that is huge, I could put more.
Nathan Sederholm » posted 2007/04/16 - 23:24
I'll post a picture of it tomorrow.
