malawi slate tank

by richard sykes from leeds / GBR
In the hobby since august 2008.

Description

  • Category: Lake Malawi
  • Tank size: 31x11x19 inches = 31 gallons
  • Tank size: 80x30x50 cm = 120 liters

This is my first tank set up that i did in september 2008 and decided to go for malawi cichlids. Very nice looking fish and fascinating to watch.
I have a plain black background with a blue light at the rear and white at the front. kept it simple with very few plants but could maybe do with rearanging the slate and getting some that is more chunky than the thin slate in there now. although there are plenty of hiding places created for them and they seem to be fine with it.
In there are 2 aurotas, 4 yellow labs, 2 zebra, 2 red fin, 2 albino ? and 1 synodontis catfish.

Decoration

  • Gravel:
  • Plants: fake

    bogwood

Technics

  • Light: 1 white glo tube and a blue marine glo tube at the rear.
  • Light-Duration: 12hrs
  • Filtration: fluval 205 external

Very nice, I would stack your slate and create caves that reach halfway up the tank. The albino zebras get fairly large, they will eventually have to be removed from this size of tank. Love that gravel!

Ashley is right, on both counts. Upgrade your tank or thin them out. Great selection though. Then ad more rock. It is much cheaper at your local landscaping rock supplier than the pet store. Just make sure they have sold to aquarium owners before & know what is safe.
