mine are still small, and chase some of the other fish around, but so far that is as aggressive as they get. The two do not like each other...I have read they can be very aggressive, but i guess like all fish they all are individuals
They not very aggressive, I would say Dempsey temperament kind of fish.
Fish is from Madagascar and scientists saying that it most primitive of all cichlids. They almost have gone from the wild, after Nil perch introduction in their surroundings.
Fish grow up to 12" and not fussy about fish at all.
This is one of the most primitive of all cichlids. It can grow to about 12 inches in the right sized aquarium and tends to prefer worms, shrimp and krill rather than pellets(mine won't touch em). They've been described as mildly aggressive however my male is far from mildly aggressive. He holds his own against my jag and green terror. Perhaps that's because right now he's the biggest in the tank. I have another male and his new mate in a 20 gallon which I will be upsizing after I move.
I agree with Fuelleborni-thicker bodied
