I Bought this fish from local pet store after being told it was a jack dempsey but idont think it is unsure really and could do with some help

thank you very much for such a quick response he is currently in with i think two female jack dempsys will they breed or end up fighting

the Dempsey and the Ngara are two different species of fish from different location in the world, the JD will kill the Ngara.

wow thank you so much i think i should have looked more into it but being a newbie to this running before walking springs to mind (perhaps pet shop could have been a little more helpful)that will teach me lol

you will find most petshops will only sell you things rather than give advice, or proper advice, the more they sell, the most money they make, good rule of thumb to look for. The real question is are you looking to have some very big fish, or a mixed community cichlid tank with alot of color?

I have an oscar (pics posted)he lived with him for a bit and all seamed fine then like i said i was mistaken thinking it was a JD so could i put him back with the oscar the oscar tank is about 5 feet and only has the oscar and two pleccys in there ???he is to pretty to lose
