I've also seen them referred to as "midnight cichlids as well. I have three juveniles now in my tank that I was completely ignorant in purchasing. For starters I was told they'd only grow to a max of 4 or 5 inches...and then I was told they had a placid dimeanor. I've since found out that none of this is true from this forum and online articles I've read. Still, I'm infatuated with the species and now want to aid in there preservation as well. Any info anyone can give me to aid in they're continuance within my care would be very helpfull. I'm going to bread this lot and start a 55 gallon system for them.

Two of my polleni paired off and looked very close to breeding until I foolishly moved around some of the rocks then all heck broke loose. The male started brutalizing the female and now I think she's gone. I haven't seen her come out to eat in a couple of days now. I still have another female in a 20 gallon tank by herself growing unmolested. In about 6 months maybe I'll reunite the two. The male and female tried to kill her when they paired off. I guess three was a croud for them.
