Kyle, easy way to measure the fish. Take a regular 12 " or larger ruler and lay it in front of the tank glass, on top of the wood stand, where fish usually swim. Leave it there permanent. It will be many occasions daily when you have a chance to see your fish next to the ruler and determent their size precise.

nathan my devils pupils look normal. i found the best way to tell them apart was lips and mouth shape. but most arent true midas or devils any more but a mix.
Alex Odesit » posted 2007/08/30 10:43 pm
yeah kyle/nate, if you look at picture of my Red Devil I had years back, his eye pupils looks same as the Midas.
agree with kyle, best to part them out the head and lips shape, also Midas have allot higher body.

Nathan Sederholm » posted 2007/08/30 10:51 pm
Ya, I know not always but that devil in particular has them that's why I jumped to that conclusion. http://www.cjexotics.com/images/red-devils.jpg
I agree too. The snout to me is a give away. Something about it. It's hard to explain.
Nathan Sederholm » posted 2007/08/30 10:54 pm
Ya, they are the hardest though.
Alex Odesit » posted 2007/08/30 10:57 pm
will do kyle, he/she become really bitchy lately, really hate all Heros, specially the guy who bother her? before. I feel sorry for both of my Waroo, they having hard time to get the food, all eaten before they got any, they are too slow for my crew

Then you have sites like this telling people they are the same fish anyways.
kyle jackson » posted 2007/08/30 11:01 pm
yea, when i got this guy lfs said midas, but i think he looks more devil, larger lips more of a longer face. so i just call him a devil
Nathan Sederholm » posted 2007/08/30 11:01 pm
Ya, then again I could be full of crap anyways. It's a Bass!
Alex Odesit » posted 2007/08/30 11:05 pm
yep these are devils, sure thing. Lips give away.
They are very different fish.
Midas is Amphilophus Citranelium other Labiatum. I have read that they are not cross breeded in the wild.
You'll never miss pure adult Midas, he don't have much from Labiatum, but again it's so true that today is most of them cross breed:(
kyle jackson » posted 2007/08/30 11:10 pm
hey no offence nathan just sayn thats why i call mine a devil
Alex Odesit » posted 2007/08/30 11:18 pm
don't tell no one, but I like the look of adult Devil like yours, allot more then adult Midas with a huge ugly hump, but thats just people preferences, many is oposite.
kyle jackson » posted 2007/08/30 11:37 pm
was hopeing he would grow some hump to show male. but nuthing to big. i seen some on other sites with humps like tennis balls, looked like the humps would drag them to the bottom of the tank.
Nathan Sederholm » posted 2007/08/31 12:07 am
No I know. They are harder when they have the humps.
