cichlids.com: Why do these guys change color?

Why do these guys change color?

I got 3 of these 2 weeks ago and one has changed color over the weekend. It is now Blue?

maybe is is the mix of black and yellow making him look blue male auratus are black...

He will look funny colored until finished changing. My male msobo is a dull gray looking color.

I had one that turned black but the fins remained yellow...He also tried to take out any tankmates trespassing in his area

only fish that would challenge him was a rather large red top zebra. he actually injured the auratus and I gave the red top up. after the auratus recovered he was a lot more aggressive towards the other red tops, so i started over in jan.

The tank is mostly Cichlids, with a few old timer's. A large Silver Dollar and a Balia Shark. So he is not king yet and I have plenty of places for the fish to hide. Wood, Rocks and plants.
