What kind of Geophagus?
What kind of Geophagus?
What type of Geophagus is this? Is it a male? I am planning to get very fine smooth gravel or sand. Any other suggestions?

Juan, it would be great if I could I get your e-mail. I am so new to the sand thing and am wondering what I should do about the maintenance on the sand and also the filter. Right now I have a MarineLand bio-wheel filter made for 75 gallon aquarium (mine is 55 gallon). I have two geophagus, this guy and a smaller one in it. I would like to learn about the sand for my geos. Thanks!

i prefer to take a trip and 6-7 5gallon buckets and go to the local river. The color of the sand is more natural, and I think it makes them seem happier (white sand will drain their coloring)

I live across from the Arkansas River. it is most likely polluted, but I'm sure I can find some on the bank. It is a lighter sand, a bit reddish I believe.

best advice is to get rid of your current substraight and get sand.
