Very sick fish...help please
Very sick fish...help please
Hey everyone, things have been going pretty well in Malawi world since I last talked to a few of you. However just a few days ago one of my Melanochromis Johanni's "Gome" (think thats what she is) has suddenly become very bloated, loss of colour and is not eating. She can still swim around but is usually at the bottom of the tank. I have read that she may have some sort of bloat disease or may be pregnant but with no mate to spawn with (I think that is unlikely due to the swelling around her eyes?) The other female shown in the bottom left keeps chasing her all the time, this has only recently started to happen as up until now they have both been pals. All the other fish in the tank are doing very well, my 2 Red Rubins have spawned again so im pretty sure there is no problem with the water conditions. Anyone seen this before? What can I do to help her? Most of her scales are starting to come away from her body also...eek!

I would take it out of the tank right away, and treat it separately... Looks like a bacterial infection , which is very contagious.. Try a med for bacterial infections...

First take it out and put in a hospital tank.Second go buy some metronitazole powder and treat at full strength every 6 hours. Day 2 treat at half strenght every 6 hours and day 3 50 % water change and repeat the process. Its malawi bloat. No food plenty of air and u might be able to beat it. good luck.

Hope you can save her. The other female fish is probably chasing this one because she shows a weakness. That won't stop and others will probably join in. Metronidazole is good stuff. Best of luck.

Clout is a good med for bloat. move her to a seperate tank before treating.
