Different species (not a female m. johanni, they're yellowish).

Do you mean to say this female is distinctly yellowish in person but only blue-grayish in every photo it appears in?

Almost...look at my other pics and you will see the characteristic yellowish tan in them.

Should be as yellow-orange as your Feb2006 male kenyi pics. If she breeds with your male johanni and her fry aren't solid yellow, that'll be a SURE indicator she isn't a m. johanni.

Her fry are yellow when they are born, then they turn more brownish color with the tale-tale stripe down the side, then they turn blue. When they are adolescents, they start turning more like the parents, except the males will stay lighter if there is a more domonant male in there (i.e. the father). The sub-dominant males will turn the same brownish color as mom with a more distinct horizontal stripe.

Kay Bee...I see what you are talking about with the female being orange. Look at this link with the "true" electric blue male. That is what mine is. There must have been something gone wrong with the genetics, because my females are not orange. 2 of mine just released fry and they are orange the 1st week or so and they turn the blue color. Maybe the lighting or just genetics. http://www.timstropicals.com/FreshwaterFish/AfricanCichlids/index.asp
