thanks kevin. no quite easy actually . depends on fish of course .when i had moori they love to eat them .and my peaocks have abite at the ones in there tank too.mbuna dont seem to care to much for them ..

youve seen mine and I use plastics is it possible to get and maintain plants the size of mine if there real with my fish family? You can see my fish list in tank examples

ypur tank looks great with the plastic.. i use amix in my peacock tank some real some plastic.. i wouldnt chnage yours

help!!! trying to understand why i losed 2 calavus 2 nights ago, 250 litre tank with 2 canister filters,
one stopped working and so did the air pump.
the canister that stopped- 350 liters per hour.
the canister that was left working 1200 liters per houre.
time without air pump and small filter 18 hours.
why such quick death and why only my 2 favourite fish- 2 big calavus???????????

so you still had one canister going . how is your ph levels nitrates amonia etc. temp ok.. water chnages ,how long since last one. and how much . what do you feed them. just going through the basics. who else was in the tank. the working canister should have been fine on that tank.where do you have your spray bar too.. how sad i love my three i would be devestated if i lost them

whats a spray bar? i change water weekly, food the same as i have been dooing for years, i agree about the canister so that only leaves the air pump, could the lack of air kill 3 fish in 15 hours, eaven if the aquarium is well fitered??? i saw them befor he died, the calavus was in shock, he looked very stiff, couldent swim properly, on his side, his eyes looked a bit bloated. other then that he looked physcly fine physicly fine.
a slow and painfull death sorry to say.

cichlid novice the eye might be pop eye. that will kill them if not treated and can be caused by bacteria or stress so maybe it was something bacterial and killed the three not the canister.spray bar is the bar with the little holes that puts the water back in the tank after the canister sucks it out. i have mine at water level and it creates more water movment and puts extra air in the tank. hope you can work it out. who else was in the tank maybe someone is being a big bully..

Cichlid Novice, your name says enough. Calvus are NOT easy fish to keep. If the temperature varied +/- 3 degrees in a days time the fish have a VERY good chance of dieing. Calvus do not stand up to sudden changes in temperature. ask Roger, they are not easy fish to keep.

thanks Tang O' for those words of encouragement, yes i am learning the had and expensive way ( or the fish are ). It seems that the Calavus always go first, one mistake an its "by by"', that was my second couple
that died.

yeh mine are goin great i'm getting rid of all my fish in the 180 and makeing it a tang only tank getting 5 calvus the 4 leleupi i have and 2 brichardi and hopefully 20Leptosoma if i have money

probs take them to the pet shop and ask if i can get 4 more calvus and 20 Leptosoma or as many as i can get my tank is pretty packed now about 30+ fish

yeah they should trade . leptosoma are $4O plus dollars down this end..

one store down south has 1 and my lfs would order them from qld.

hmm 40x20 = 800 bucks lots of money haha i'm probs only gonna buy 10 now and get one a week for a while or save up some more money

thanks lee ..sure.lol.i was actually surpised at how eaasyish they are. high ph 8.2 .. reg every 4 to 5 days water change reg as other guys .. veg flake and brine shrimp frozen and fresh .. no diff to my other fish actually
temp at 26.5.. they seem to love those conditions i have them at .. out all the time great me at glass when i have my coffee.. everyone says they are shy ..not keith and his buddys..

cool well we are supposed to have a line on some through Wayne but not sure if it has panned out yet.. I just hate to get fish if I do not think I have the timefor them.. I already have 30+ tanks and have tank cleaning duties everyday to keep up with them.. So I guess what is 1 more tank right?

yeh 30 is a bit xtreme i had 4 and i got lazy my drinking habits are bad lol but fun
