yeah this Kenyi had the tank on lockdown until i got my Albino Zebra. that sucker took over. ill be adding a pix of him later. but how do you know whether your Kenyi is MALE or FEMALE? cuz i have a blue and yellow one. and if anyone can share their expertisse with us, how do u determine sex on any cichlid in general???
Surge, male and female kenyi both start out blue. As the male matures he will turn to the yellow you have here. Females remain blue.
As far as sexing cichlids in general... Once again it depends on the type. Some are fairly easy to tell apart and some you just won't know for sure unless you vent them (which can be stressful for the fish), or wait to see if you wind up with a holding female or see eggs. You can use these tips as a guide.. but they are not always accurate..
*males tend to have more color than females.
*males tend to be bigger in size.
*males tend to have pointier fins, where females are more rounded.
I'm sure I missed a few 'tips', but I hope this helps some.
Honestly, most of what I know, I learned from the great people that were/are part of this site. Happy to help when I can.
**For future reference, lol, I'm a 'dudette'. Bip stands for Beautiful Italian Princess.
