add more rockwork and places to hide. that will help. the zebras like heavily rocked tanks, the peacock is a kind of open water swimmer near rocks and not sure, but think the fryeri is the same as the peacock?

Do you have any plants you could throw in til you get more rocks?

I'd put the rock to one side more and plants med.-tall an the other side to accomadate both breeds ! You can build the rocks up higher to half the tank, that'll help with the expenses, and potting plants help in and out of the rocks for more cover. Just a suggestion.

You don't have enough fish in the tank. Mbunas are best kept crowded (to a point of course) This spreads out the aggression, no one fish gets chased too much. In the wild they live in crowded environments as well. My ninety gallon has about 30 adult cichlids in it and aggression is not a problem in my tank at all. More rocks will not solve the aggression problem, only provides refuge from getting hammered. Try to keep fish that are disimilar in appearence.and no more than 1 male of each species. ( I like small colonies (3-6) of each species)

Rob you can also use rock from a farm field or such if you boil it and clean it good, you don't have to go buy it at $2-$3 a pound...all my tanks have field stone i bought a truck load for $40 from a farmer that has a 100' long pile in his fence row..my truck wasdragging it bumper almost...lol
also adding more fish and flipping will all help...

To summarize everything here:

1) Could add more fish.
2) Add more rocks
3) if expense is a problem, try stacking the rocks in the MIDDLE of the tank and add tall/medium plants on either side (helps make the tank look more balanced)
4) Go find rocks somewhere, and clean them. (All my rocks I found as well.)
5) To get ideas of how to lay out rocks, look at other people's tanks to find what suits you best. Remember its your tank and you should have it how you want it. :)

6) Enjoy the hobby, and if you didn't know going into the hobby that cichlids are some of the most aggressive fish, you do now. lol Its in their nature to act like that, but everything listed above combined with everyone else's comments should help knock down the agression and make a knock out tank!

Add more mbuna's as already stated (their aggression is amplified in smaller groups). Were you to remove the red zebra, another fish would fill the vacant dominant role.
