I have Different and i thought 2 females then they grew humps became 2 males . I have noticed these are normally kept in a group and pair off then . also have seen big ones in shop with not much difference between sexes so cant help buddy

yeah Jamie, be prepared to get them a much bigger tank(and possibly a few more for a group) I am 80% sure there are no differeneces(and with these males do not get humps.. they all have the slanted foreheads)

no problem...I liked the way they looked;I also have a Hecklii (in my 125gl) and they look similiar. Will eventually put them in the 125gl as they outgrow the 30gl (have a pair of Firemouths about 4" or so in the 30gl as well)

thanks Tang...I think they will do ok in the 125gl with mixed haps/peacocks..what ya think? I alos have a small brichardi and hecklii..and a male con in the 125gl..

i don't think so.. The water parameters is different, the haps like the harder water and the eartheaters the softer waters. Plus, my lfs has a tank were they have some different peacocks (2.5-3") in with adult males of these and the males went from perfect fins to completely tattered and I am pretty sure one died (I know I wouldn't have bought the fish in that condition)

Maximum Size: 10"
Temperature: 80°F
pH: 4.3 - 7.2
Water Hardness: Soft

(frieri)
Maximum Size: 7"
Temperature: 78 - 82°F
pH: 7.8 - 8.6
Water Hardness: Hard

The temps and the higher end/lower end of the ph's are close, but the hardness is polar opposites. Not saying it couldn't work, just wouldn't try it (IMO)

Nice Jamie, but I agree with tang on this. I try never to mix africans and americans. One thing you don't know is if these were raised with proper ph and hardness. Wild caught fish would be a real no no. These may have been raised in any conditions in a aquarium. They may be 50 generations tank raised which makes them way more versitile than wild caught fish. Still healthier and happier in proper parameters I am sure. Would possible effect the lifespan as well. Just what I think Jamie.

got ya, thanks for the education on this....I want to eventually set up specific tanks for certain species alone, just don't have room here. I'll just keep them in the 30gl for now and hopefully get something bigger later on to put them in. Thanks again Tang/Roger...

YW Jamie... try to keep them happy. Lost my pair of Lwanda's and their fry. D@@n heater malfunction. :(

sad...unfortunately, when we try to keep fish with technology, things are bound to happen. We can just try to emulate their natural habitat the best we can..again, for our enjoyment.

Yes sir, and everyone has to do what they think is best. Karrie, has kept mixed tanks for a long time. She seems to do well with it. Look back at some of her pics.

that's why I try different setups sometimes...I like variety within means, I definately don't want to hurt the fish, but I just think sometimes you can mix certain groups and they can thrive. And, sometimes, it isn't good to mix...that's why I ask...thanks bro!
