one of my favorite, good CA/SA cichlids tankmates. I had some adults, close to 8". Very interesting fish, but make sure your water clean and tank tight covered. They are great jumpers.

Very nice. I have never seen one like this before. Am I right to guess that it's not a cichlid?

She had 2 more, but I was afraid of them taking to much space. Most tanks I have seen them in with cichlids, there was just one. What is nice is they only occupy the very top 20% of your tnak where no one else goes, so it gives you some movement up there to watch. Books all say they are mean, I haven't seen a mean one yet.

I'd be to worried about fin damage to keep these things with cichlids. Even silver dollars rip up there fins.Pretty little fish though.

Shoot a cichlid couldn't catch these guys on a good day. They are very fast like a danio, that's why they are good with cichlids, kinda like a dither, they could try to chase but would never be able to catch him.

Lol. I realise that. Lol. I meant the damage these guy's would cause to a cichlid with nice finnage.

Oh, LOL sorry. Well seeing how cichlids stay in the bottom half of the tank and this guy will NEVER go below the half way mark, I think its pretty safe. They are very shy also and get spooked easily, I'm pretty sure a cichlid would just run it off. I've never heard of anyone having problems, that's also the benefit of keeping just one, get em in a group and they might grow bigger ba**s.

no problem for me keeping with cichlids, I did it for years, look at my old pictures, they show my Chalceus with numerous sized cichlids. The only one with fin damage is Trimac, but it's done by Festae.
Chalceus good cichlid tankmate, as well Silver Dollar.

Alex I went back through your pics and couldn't find any pink tailed chalceus, just some barbs. Can you repost? I would love to see them.

Alex is right. I had one for so long and moved and had him in a bucket temporarily and it jumped out. Very sad and was a good fish.

Nice fish-someone mentioned the cichlids stay at bottom half of tank-r mine messed up then? They swim all over and yes, mainly bottom half, but many of them will swim up behind filters to eat food floating and just looking around. Thanks.

Mine do on occasion, I really meant that they won't be competig for the same space, as cichlids by in large don't occupy the top half the majority of the time. They do peruse.
