Well...I'm for certain that it isn't a estherae because the females are already orange and the males are blue and opposite of that is kenyi in which males are orange and females are blue.. Your fish in the picture doesn't look either orange or blue...it looks like its turning into orange from blue in which the male kenyi does. (Note his blue fins)
There's a picture of mine, which is 100% not a male Kenyi. And actually, the fins are the first (color to orange transformation) with male Kenyi's. Just my input.
Definately a male red zebra (m. estherae (not all are male red zebras are blue,in fact most in captivity most are 'red'). Blue-hued fins on this red zebra are a gender indicator.
False...my male kenyi is the same exact color because he is going through his maturity stage...dey do get this color then becoming golden later on..don't get me wrong......this picture is starting to resemble a red zebra more and more...becuz his eyes don't seem blue like my kenyi....take a pic with the entire body showing...especially the tail..and we"ll be abke to tell 4 sure by the egg spots on his anal fin..
a female kenyi is blue, i have one, and the males are yellow, and this one in the pic. looks like some sort of zebra. I agree with tonya! Nice fish though!
The presence of egg spots on the anal fin is inconsequential. The fish is starting to resemble a red zebra more and more...because that's what it is. ;) I've got 40-50 red zebras (no kidding) and can spot them fairly easily. Tim, please post a photo of your kenyi.
Lol...ok...ok.your rite..but my male kenyi is that color...when he waz small he waz blue just like the female kenyi I have in the tank with him but now he is changing over to a golden yellow... I posted a pic of him already..take a look
