NEWWW FATHER!!!!!
NEWWW FATHER!!!!!
Metriaclima estherae
Yesterday i came home to clean out my filters and install the new ligting fixture i bought for my mbuna tank. After completion i saw this guy darting around and doing his dance for one of the females...i dont know if it was the clean water, the new light, or the new food which i also bought, but i was lucky enough to watch him spawn with one of the females in the tank.

That's a red zebra right? I didn't know they had purple on them. Mine is all orange, so will it change colors as it grows? He's a dandy daddy!

Congrats. My cichlids spawn after water changes too.

Yes this michelle this is a red zebra. Your fish may or may not change depending on what variation and sex of metriaclima estherae(red zebra) you have.
Mine is an orange estherae- males of this variation sometimes have white bellies and are a light orange color. The females are often a richer more saturated ornage than the males.
There is also an orange blotched variation- in this variety the females are orange blotched and the males are a light orange.
Yet another variation is the red zebra- this variety has males who display a slighly darker orange than the other varieties and females who display a very rich (almost red) orange color.
The last variation is the blue variety- this variety has males that are blue, and the females are orange. In the wild this variety is the majority of the estherae population
.... In other words, unless your little guys is blue, you wont really know what he is going to look like until he gets a bit larger.
