My most aggressive fish
My most aggressive fish
Just under 3", this female msobo is the most aggressive fish I own. A few months ago she killed two other female msobo's and severely wounded the third. Recently, while mouthbrooding, she herself was nearly killed by the fully recuperated female(retaliation?) losing all her eggs and tail fin in the process. I placed her in a hospital tank containing a single yellow lab and an armored hoplo catfish. Within a few days the bruised female killed the lab and harassed the catfish. I placed her back in the original tank (due to lack of tank space) and the two females instantly engaged in a liplocking battle, fighing to a draw. By the second day she nearly killed the female which had beaten her earlier (forcing me to place the loser, lacking even less of a tail fin, in a fry tank; luckily she's left the juvies alone and is quickly recuperating). She's there to stay while this female remains in the demasoni tank since apparently these female msobo can't tolerate each other (meanwhile the males are fairly laid back).

Nice..Not nice that its so aggressive, but nice fish. I would recommend adding alot more structure (rock) in the tank for places for smaller fish to re-treat. I have young acei's in with mature/breeding pseudo elongatus, and hap obliquedens...yes there is fighting and aggression, but never any damage done due to TONNES of hiding spots... Regardless good luck with this monster.

My Msobo did the same thing, except for that she killed my male. But you are right they hold their own. lol

Both have grown back their tails and are doing well (in separate tanks). This is the only species I have where the females are like 3x's more aggressive than the males. Initially I wanted to keep 2m/4f in the same tank, now it's looking like 1m/1f in two separate tanks.

Shonna, check out her caudal fin (or what's left of it). It grew back.
