He is more of a bark than bite when it comes to protecting his territoyry against a JD of the same size in my tank. Ocassionally though he does strike at the JD, but only when he thinks he can take him which is never because he just backs away.

That's a female. Not as agressive as a male. Firemouths are normally cowards when it's outside there own race.
