Male Kenyi and Yellow Lab
Male Kenyi and Yellow Lab
This male Kenyi used to be fairly mild mannered until he completely changed to his male colors. Now he is starting to chase anything that comes close to his little hang, the rock that he thinks he owns. The Yellow Lab is starting to be more brave also. It does not chase anything but it holds its ground if harrassed. Can anyone tell if the Yellow Lab is male or female. I do not know much about labs. I have had this one for about eight months and it has changed colors somewhat. Sometimes it gets dark, kind of black and other times it looks yellow with black around its fins. I believe it is male but I just need clarification.

males usually have jet black on there pectoral and anal fins, whereas females can have a charcoal colour. or no black at all in those. i also use a black stripe through the eye as an indicator of it being male as most females don't seems to get it.

Are you referring to the fish on the bottom right as being the yellow lab? In this pic it looks way to dark to be a yellow lab. Labs generally stay yellow in the body with black in the fins. Could you try to get a better shot of him/her for us?

i was about to say where is the yellow lab. i have never seen one that dark before if that is it down bottom right. it must be very stressed to be this dark.. are the americians in the same tank with africians..??

Yes, I have the americans and africans in the same tank. They all get along okay so this is their environment for now. When I move, I will separate them by species but for now I have limited space.
