real bad ice/snow storm took out their power and his generator wasn't big enough to run his house and the tanks.,so he had to make a choice. Family first.

Extremely sorry for your losses :(
Cichlid Storm » posted 2008/01/01 - 16:43
Mike, and others, we have been without power since friday. My generator is capable of running either the furnace for shorter bursts, or the tanks, I tried like heck to keep them warm, but had no where near enough water bottles, or a big enough stove to keep them up. I was more concerned with my breeders over the fry tanks. I am looking into a new Generator now from a local company here. Its big enough to run the entire tank systems, and the house completely. The Insurance estimate is over 160k worth of loss, which is going to take me a very very long time to build back up the wild stock I have lost. So tank by tank, 1-2 at a time, I am gong to work on filling them back up again. I have ordered some WILD Yellow Calvus and White Calvus adults, as well as a complete group of Sciaenochromis Fryeri "Likoma" and "Mandalawi", and a few others. It will be about 6 weeks before they get here, so this gives me time to get everything back in order once again. The elec company is working on the transformers today, have been out there for a few hours now. Our snow fall has been absolutely insane, considering they called for 5-8" and we have gotten over 4x's that since friday afternoon. Today its cold and the snow is falling still, but very light thank god. I appreciate the thoughts about juvies from Lee, but I don't think I am ready to go full at it yet, I want to make sure I am prepared this time before I really start setting them all back up. (IE: Generator is working and strong enough), I would hate to have this crap happen again. It's like losing alot of pets all at once.

Mr. Cichlids I know you were breeding "hara white tops" I'll ship you some of my fry when they get big enough. It's not much but it will at least rebuild your colony of those anyways. James
Cichlid Storm » posted 2008/01/01 - 16:59
I appreciate it James, It will be about 8-10 weeks before I start restocking the bulk of the tanks. Just let me know what I will owe you for them, and I'll take care of it from there.

I feel like crap when I lose one, cant imagine all my babies goin at once, if we can help please let us know Mr. cichlid
James Martin » posted 2008/01/01 - 18:11
Don't worry about payment. We'll work a trade or something down the road. They won't be ready to ship 'tll then any ways. That's a horrible loss. I hope you saved a few nice ones anyways.
Cichlid Storm » posted 2008/01/01 - 18:14
I got lucky with placement of my 2 holding tanks, which are located directly above 2 of the 4 heater vents in my livingroom, so they were easy to keep up to temperature, but being they are 15 gallon tanks, I couldn't overload them as they are already stocked full waiting on being shipped. The other tank was my Julie's which is a 20L, and was able to keep it warm enough with water bottle heated on the stove. In total, about 40 fish survived, including the 2 orders waiting to go out.

O M G.... almost stunned me into tears. I saw your fish as inspiration to research and learn about my species, I know that your stock will only be better in the future. Incredibly crummy to hear bro. My condolences to you man. Jeez...
