FYI everyone, two of three are actually still alive, going on 5 days now. Lots of caves, so they find places to hide when the fish try to attack. Smart little guys after all :)

Can someone loan me their Jaguar for the weekend so I can get rid of these pests? :)
steve spates » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:36

Travis Ethridge » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:36
Frank, the big midas eats these before they even hit the gravel/sand :P
Travis Ethridge » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:38
You know frank, get some more of these and maybe you could have dinner:)
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:40
They are major poo machines ... I dont think I could ever eat this for dinner after witnessing this display :) Does your Midas want New York crayfish? :) They are running the tank!
R L » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:43
how did the crayfish get in there? what do you have in the tank
Travis Ethridge » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:45
Frank, i just had crawfish the other night for dinner:) Was deeelish!
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:46
They snuck in the back while I was out ... j/k :) I bought a few as feeders. The fish gobbled up the first one, but left five others. (I only asked for three, but the LFS gave me a few extra because I bought some other stuff from him at the same time) In the tank is a Convict, Loisellei, Firemouth, Veija Heterospilus, Salvini, and Cutteri.
Christie & Joe » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:46
Lol I could send you an Oscar.. Ours likes them :)
Juan Damelines » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:50
Crawdads right ??? i caugh two at my Friends creek Monday but i let them go, i though of putting them in the tank but can be bad both ways.! they do clean tanks as far as i know!
Ryan Lewis » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:53
Lol. I had one that completely terrorized my tank. Grew to almost 5 inches then disapeared one day. The africans musta gobbled him up while he molted or somethin. Anyways, no sign of him for a month now lol
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:55
Christie, I promise I will return him in a week ... :) Juan - they eat left over food, but they certainly dont "clean tanks" :) They make lots of waste, but if you have large SA/CA cichlids, they should love crunching them up. My fish just dont understand that they are food :)
harvick fan » posted 2008/03/26 - 02:57
crawdads arent much for cleaners juan , shrimp on the other hand are but i'm thinking by franks title that he's really not looking for cleaners but for some tank buster to take these guys out lol . good luck frank hope the gang go ballistic on them!!! carnageeeeeeeeeee sry just got done playing call of duty 4 online and still on a little adreniline high from the killin !!
Juan Damelines » posted 2008/03/26 - 03:00
Just dont feed ur gang for a day or 2 that should do it.
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 03:05
Harvick - I was worried they were a little small yet, but I watched them clobber the first one in seconds. They were going crazy fighting over the pieces. Since then, they just let the crayfish run the show, steal their caves, and muck up their house.

Juan - I didnt feed them today, because I think the same thing that you do - hopefully when I come home tomorrow, they'll have done some housecleaning. With my luck, I'll have crayfish breeding or something :)
harvick fan » posted 2008/03/26 - 03:15
lol i had ghost shrimp in with some tetras , bought 5 and ended up with like 30 . they can multiply fast in the right setting . jd's loved them !
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 03:16
If I wake up to 30 crayfish, I will collapse and cry... but of course, you would all be welcome to some :)
Christie & Joe » posted 2008/03/26 - 03:24
lol.. Exactly how I feel about our convicts that keep reproducing..
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 03:29
I think my male convict wants to spawn with my Salvini who is not interested at all. All others in my tank are male I beleive - like a bad dream for a boy fish looking for action. :) Maybe he will take out his frustrations on a crayfish or 3. :)

Thought we had all the girls gone... Not so much.
Alex Odesit » posted 2008/03/26 - 14:35
man, my were eaten by jewel fish at no time. Most of them, when change the shell
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 14:43
How often do they change their shell? I'm thinking about returning them to the store! :) Alex, if you want them, I can meet you in Queens or something lol
Alex Odesit » posted 2008/03/26 - 14:53
lol Frank, may be one day, if they didn't get eaten. I am actually often at Oak Beach (John Beach area).
Don't remember how often they change the shell it was years ago, but they do every couple month or so , when I had them. I had the same worry as you, I recall it. I bought all small fish and adult cray fish with them. These menacing cray's were hunting smaller guys, kill couple of them, I was pissed. Then when fish get's bigger, everything went opposite. They were hunting cray's, and finish them, like I mention before at no time.
Yo Frank, if it doesn't happen this way with yours, get them out, boil and have a cold beer, lol

hey Frank sorry to change the subject on ya but do u know any really good fish stores in the city?
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:08
Thats okay Christian - I probably need a break from ranting :) Unfortunately no, I'm not too familiar with stores in NYC. I grew up in Lindenhurst (Nassau/Suffolk border) and work on the island, so I only really know major attractions in the city. Too crowded for me :)
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:09
I know a few clean stores around here (Nassau), if you are looking for something, maybe I can help you find it.
*Christian* :o) » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:14
lol yea i agree too crowded. Well i have family in LI so maybe one day if i head out there i will definitley get in contact with you to find out. Thanks Frank!
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:14
Alex, Oak Beach as in Suffolk county - Ocean Parkway? Real close to me - I'm about 15 minutes from the Robert Moses bridge. If you mean somewhere else, then nevermind :)
Alex Odesit » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:18
Christian.
I know couple stores to consider.
They are both in Brooklyn NY.
One on Flatbush/Flatlands (I think it call World Glass Aquarium, not sure, but it's only one there). They are expensive but have nice/healthy stock of fish.
I also know another store on Nostrand , my friend own it ((Fish expo, the owner name Nick, say hello from Alex Odesit), not as much fish, but good prices for tanks, stands, equipment etc, and some nice fish as well.
If you wana go there (Nick's store, I give you the phone number, to get direction from him)

Oh kool sounds good. All around my area. Will prolly check it out this weekend. Thnx Alex!
Alex Odesit » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:27
Frank, exactly, thats it mang, Robert Moses bridge, and high speed Supra's pass.
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:41
I used to own a 75' Corvette - met with some people at the old OBI on the occassional Sunday to cruise :) Probably the same place. Been a long time - miss that car. Supras are nice, but I never got into import cars... one money-pit hobby at a time - fish for now :)
Alex Odesit » posted 2008/03/26 - 15:47
Corvette is a nice car, no queston about.
Car's labor doesn't cost me much, I work on it myself (as a hobby).
I did all my work on Supra, except building the engine internal, I use machine shop. My 1987 big azz turbo Pupra, pushing 500 rwhp, and looks a total sleeper. Here, the link, car looks allot different now, still no rice, no decals, huge kidie spoilers, body kits, etc:)

Thats the right way to do it - no flashy nonsense. Car looks like a beast - nice to include the dyno sheet :) I sunk a ton of money into that old Vette - did most of the work myself as well learning from a buddy of mine who is a mechanic. Just got too expensive to keep up with, and got like 8mpg :) 430hp at the motor when I had the engine built - never got a chance to get a rating at the rear wheels.
