Frank, if I don't know the person who post these video’s, I would def doubt the credibility, cause this fish look to me 100% Jaguar, or some of their subspecies. But I know who is Aquamojo and he know better.
I see he call this fish Loisellie SP, which means it's still undescribe and DNA test in the process (as he state on his video comments, so we can't be sure what this really fish is . I'll ask him personally in next couple of days.
Btw Frank, your fish don't look much as the fish at this video IMO.
Yours look to be a true Loisellie.
I had breeding pair of Loisellie, indeed they where very aggressive. I had to remove most of the fish from my 180 gal, all who can’t defend their own territory from crazy Lois..
Most of the Loisellei I see look more like yours, or like the one I posted yesterday from the LFS - lighter at the top, more black spots, no real vertical pattern. Mine does look a little taller bodied, but since he looked reputable and said "wild caught in Honduras", and Rapps says his are F1 from Honduras, I thought I might have found the variant. The dark vertical waves/bars on mine are what confuses me.
if you got your fish from Jeff R, then it must be what he says. I personally kept the Panamanian and Nicaraguan one.
Were Panamanian was the most nasty one.
The one you seen on my older picture was sold to me as a Nicaraguan.
Frank the vid on you tube like Alex said is Jaquar. Or atleast looks like one. As far as Rapps goes i have been hering alot of bad stories about him. only hearsay i haven't dealt with him on a personal level but i know 4 people who have and had the same thing to say about him.
Alex i bought a so called trimac from a LFS that is supplied from Rapp. And he looks like sh@t. Not a trimac in my eyes. I have yey to see true true trimac. your guy in pictures was a true dude. olive body red red eyes and black by eye. true dude
Really Tony? I've heard nothing but good things, and everything I got from him was healthy, colorful, and active. Prices were good, shipping was fair ... from what I read, he is top dog. What complaints have you heard? I've heard none other than shipping being expensive, which doesnt really apply to NY. Not defending the guy to the death or anything, but I'll definitely be buying from him again. The guy who says the vid is Loisellei runs Aquamojo.com and claims to be on the board of trustees for the american cichlid association. Alex, you know this guy?
Tough to say who the problem is in that case Tony - Rapps or the LFS who says they carry Rapps fish. They probably get fish from elsewhere as well. I'd rather order direct and be sure of where I'm getting it from.
yeah, I know Aquamojo, but he is not related to the Jeff in any way.
To be honest Tony, I haven't heard anything bad about Jeff R as well, and had have no problem with him.
The only something little on back of my mind is that Trimac John got from him. All this red and irridescent hue, dunno, but like to know..
Frank i think the things i've heard from Rapps is from a different perspective. these are retailers that have gotten burnt not with shipping but with size promised. as we all know 2 guys were willing to BUY an adult so they could show perspective buyers what the fish will look like when older and was billed but no fish.Frank every transaction is different. It's great that you had a great experience and before i buy from him i will mold my own opinion. i will also take every comment into consideration before i make decision.
Alex with the trimac situation. Maybe the gene pool is so f'ed up that nobody remembers what a true trimac is. i guess only the old farts do like me and you. i don't know if your an old fart but i'm 43 going on 44 and my kids remind me i'm old
btw, before I leave my office..
Do you know where I got my true Trimac?
In 1997, Petland, Brooklyn, Canarsy under the name, guess what???
Aga ... Jewel fish,lol!
No offense Alex,I completely understand were Ya coming from on the Trimac, but i trust Jeff, heard only good things from experts to hobbyist about him,all will see when this Trimac a little bigger:)
nice fish Frank. i have a jaguar. sorry to sound like a idiot but could someone tell me the difference between a jag, dovii and a loisellei. as far as i know the difference between a jag and a dovii is the eye color jag red and dovii white and the dovii is more agressive. also is the dovii's aka wolf fish? sorry for the many ?'s. if someone can help thx
John the store is Country Critters on long island out east. they have red tigers there. 14.00. i don't know if it is Rapps but the store is on Rapps website. i hope no one gets offended by my comments or my thoughts about Rapps.
Jason there are probably more similar characteristics then differences. the dovii also have red eyes with the jaquar. they all have the same body style sleek and muscular. the dovii gets the largest then the jaquar then the loisellei and you can also throw in the red tiger motoguense which looks like a jaquar and loiselle mix. They are all nasty with th dovii at the top of the list. they all have similar mouths Huge that open up as big as a house. The jaquars are one of my favs dovii being 1 festae 2 and Jaquar 3 or 4 also trimacs
*Tony, me old fart? lol. No mang, If I were one I wont have another (3) child on the way, love Supra and MMA. We should exchange pictures dude, may be meet for couple drinks.
*John Young, I am glad you didn't get offended, just remember who recommend you Jeff Rapps?:)I am planning to do some business with him on my own. But again this Trimac is suspicious brother:)
Also IMO adult Jaguar and Fredi is less agro of all Parachromis. Yes, I didn't forget Loisellie, which follow Mota in their aggression.
Thanks Tony, definitely not offended me,I was just wondering if maybe some of the stores that get His fish on occassion, claim their fish from regular source as His to boost sales or something.Anyways best way to know You get what is advertise is ti buy directly from Rapps or maybe Ken Cochran
I agree with John, some scumbags may just claim they got fish from Jeff or other respectable breeders.
BTW, I am waiting for some Petco representative to answer my question, about them buying fish from the public. I'll let you know. I love to breed some rare guys, but have no place to bring the young.
Alex i post a picture if you will. i really don't take a good picture. It's not that i'm ugly or deformed in any way it's just what it is. Meet for a couple of drinks great me, you and Frank.I'm not an old fart either but sometimes i wake up and i feel like 100 years old my boys do that to me. What kind of Supra do you have? And did you see the new nissan gt-r? looks awesome. My brother in law has a 2001 suped up celica gt-s.
John my trimac/fh i think looks more like a true trimac than yours ,no offense to your fish. i posted a picture awhile back when he was younger. Now he is the tanks whipping post everyone picks on him. it's hard to get a picture of him because he is stuck in the corner
Tony, mine was getting picked on but is holding his on a little better now,is also hard to get good pic of.No offense taken,If it weren't for the research I did on My source I would wonder bout mine too.But He is looking more like Trimac now,IMO
John my guy got picked on so bad because of the GT spawn and the Dovii i had to put him in a breeder net away from others. he was close to shock. But i nursed him back to health and he still has nipped fins but they all do because of GTS
Alex i got my 1st taste of trimacs from ginnie and charley eckstein back in 1981 82. i bought 5 from them from a show and it was love at first sight. they all looked similar to yours in that picture
Well, to reply to everything at once: no worry about taking over the picture, its cool, talk all you like. 28 years old, down for drinks as long as I have notice (9 month old baby :)), Corvettes over Supras, like/trust Rapps from my experience, but certainly understand if others have been treated different, and finally - Jason, read up on the different Parachromis here: http://www.cichlidae.com/article.php?id=92 los of pics and useful information. Also, I picked Loisellei because its adult size is the smallest of the group, since I'm working with a 72gal tank. I've heard Freddy and Loisellei are the safest bet for success managing aggression in medium sized aquariums, generally speaking, but we will see. Same family as Jag, but smaller, and a little different in color, temperment, and territory requirements - of course all fish have their own personalities, so you never really can tell what you'll be dealing with until you bring them home.
