bip_ 4u (m) » posted 2009/11/05 12:29 am
I had to look that one(astaxanthin) up, never heard of it.
For others that might not know here's what I found....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astaxanthin

Stefan, how do you give it to your fish? What form and how much?
Tang O' (m) » posted 2009/11/05 12:37 am
Bip, they do sell some color enhansing foods that use different fish hormones to produce the enhancement int he color, but I have not heard of astaxanthin being used.
bip_ 4u (m) » posted 2009/11/05 12:40 am
Thanks again for the info Tang. Hopefully Stefan will share his 'secret' with us as to how he does it/where he finds it ect.

Thanks Vince. That's good news, I use Omega One also. I like it's results and the fish go crazy for it. Win-Win.

Her you go, you can buy astaansanin powder on kens fish annd it to flakes and pellets and it will male red fish or orange color fish redder than you could ever imagine . Its not a hormone. Its tha bomb if you guys own hongi or srt you should try it .Regular hongi will look like SRT and SRT will be insane red. 2009 Breeder Top Secret. Enjoy
Tang O' (m) » posted 2009/11/05 01:50 am
I didn't think this fish even was a "red" fish
*Christian* :o) » posted 2009/11/05 01:51 am
hmmmm might have to try this, but i dont want to take away from what the fish should really look like just my opinion.
Tang O' (m) » posted 2009/11/05 01:54 am
I agree Christian, which is why I stopped using anything with "color enhansing"... natrose was one that I found quite a bit, but didn't want to alter anything that would be considered "natural"

Thats not what its like, see its like feeding fish with blues and yellows 100% spirulina it brings out the way the fish is suppose to look its natural potential. In the wild they graze all day mbuna that is. Its natural
*Christian* :o) » posted 2009/11/05 01:56 am
its more of an orange color
Tang O' (m) » posted 2009/11/05 02:02 am

curtis miller » posted 2009/11/05 06:41 am

Katrina Damian » posted 2009/11/05 06:44 am

Pamela Pittman » posted 2009/11/05 06:54 am
My fish won't eat the Omega One :(
curtis miller » posted 2009/11/05 07:00 am
pam, maybe you could try mixing it in with the food that they do eat
Roger Hopper (m) » posted 2009/11/05 07:03 am
Pamela yes they will. Just fast them. Then feed it to them. They will not turn down food if hungry..
musiccitycichlids .com » posted 2009/11/05 11:30 pm
If all this is true, then what is the difference between this food additive and a hormone. If you are a breeder and you sell someone a fish, their fish would look nothing like yours unless you also fed the same additive, or an adult purchased would lose color soon thereafter.
