yeah-I got one that is about 3" and the other is still small, about 1.5-2".

someone told me that I can keep them in tank with fry..is that ok? All I have in the 30gl is cons and a pleco.

Very nice color on these little females.

They will out number that tank, they breed like wild flowers.

Thanks Karrie...I never knew they got like this, first time having cons...I'll take fry as they are big enough to lfs and get store credit...

Jamie, you need to ask your lfs about that first. Cons are so pletiful and eager to make more. It might be hard to get rid of them, and then get rid of even more every 24(ish) days.

Oh and their coloring is great!!
Chief Cichlid » posted 2008/03/29 - 22:51
I know they will take some, but the cons breed this much? dang...maybe I'll just stick to a male and female then, take the others back....can I put something else in the 30gl with them? If so, what and when they breed would I have to take them out again so they don't eat the fry?
Chief Cichlid » posted 2008/03/29 - 22:52
is this normal for their colors or am I just lucky?
bip_ 4u » posted 2008/03/29 - 22:57
Yes they do breed that much. Mine were like clockwork every 23-25 days I had a new batch. With approx 100 eggs or more per female... ohhh boy. Adds up very very quickly. Now granted, not all the eggs survived which cuts the numbers down for you but still you are left with quite a few.

what about putting some other fish in there with them? I think I'll take a few females back as well...
bip_ 4u » posted 2008/03/29 - 23:07
Putting other fish in there with them would not really work either. Cons will take over more than half the tank, leaving most other fish cowering in the corner on the furthest side of the tank. Possibly a pleco or loaches or botias might work to eat the eggs, but I am not possitive about that.

plecos , loaches and catfish will take out a few but cons are fierce nurse maids . you could keep just the females and take back males or vice versa .

ok-thanks all...I do have a 6" Pleco in there now. Honestly, I would like to get at least one batch-seeing that I'm new to this and have yet to experience it..then prob do that, take the males back-females look more colorful! Thanks again.
