i have a pair as well...this one is the smaller one about 2 inches and my other one is about 2 1/2-3...they are always together...no babies yet tho..

How long do they averagely get before being able to mate??

I'm fairly new to this, but I started with a male and two females, then added another male/female. After about a week, the current breeding pair i have know, paired up and chased the hell out of the others, especially the male...had 2 take him out was really battered. The m/f are about 2.5"-3" and they are on 3rd batch. Not sure why the 1st two didn't make it, but will know later today when I get home if the 3rd made it.
Do u have them in tank by themselves? What size tank? I have my pair in a 30gl with a pleco and 1 other female who they chase occassionally.

nope they are with others in a 75...not really lookin for them to breed anywayz...if they did then most likely eggs got eaten because my fish are just crazy lol and i have a pictus catfish who is alwayz on the move

Jewels can be really nasty and tough when defending fry. I have seen Jewels breed in a 75 gal with an Oscar, JD, Pleco, and Firemouth. Dont be surprised if they find a way. :)

I had mine in the 55gl with mixed africans and they seemed to do fine. They always stuck together, but I wanted to try breeding since I'm new..
