Pseudotropheus elongatus
I named him this because something is not right with him; he swims kind of funny like a wiggling motion. He eats, goes all over tank, and even chases some of the other fish, but not sure what's wrong.

I am guessing it is a cross breed of Demasoni and some other psuedotropheus, i have a fish that is kinda similar but much darker than your fish

An elongatus mix maybe?
Chief Cichlid » posted 2008/03/07 - 20:12
I have no clue-it swims real funny and is kind of long too. It eats, plays, defends just like the rest; but have no idea what it is....

It surely looks like its got some elongatus in it...maybe part "Luhuchi Rock"? If so, alot of the elongatus get some nice purple colors on them.

esox-mine spends alot of time up near the top right of tank near the air stone bubbles-it will swim around and eat, but is this maybe his "spot" for now?
James Martin » posted 2008/03/08 - 00:33
He's probably not dominant enough to take center stage, his colors are a little faded, which would support this theory

Just a minute ago, him and one of my female Auratus's were going round in round...

Did He color up?
Chief Cichlid » posted 2008/03/08 - 02:13
Kind of hard to tell; I had left side light off and the right side on, but sitting on my filter so it looked like sunset kind of. He chases almost the whole tank around for a few. Why does he/she swim so funny? It doesn't look hurt or anything-is it because he is "elongated"? lol
James Martin » posted 2008/03/08 - 02:19
No he should swim normal. Maybe he had an injury when he was younger that damaged his swim bladder, or something else that affected his swimming.
Chief Cichlid » posted 2008/03/08 - 02:24
He kind of looks like a very small snake swimming, side to side motion. His fins are good, but noticed he doesn't open up too much. Think he'll be ok?
