cichlids.com: Holding Zebra?

Holding Zebra?

Hi all,

I recently looked in my tank and noticed that one of my OB Zebra's had a lump under her mouth. Never had a holding cichlid before, so please confirm this for me.

Is she pregnant? If so, should i quarantine her from the main tank?

Tank specs.
72 gallon AGA Bowfront
Hardscape, Rock formations
Substrate, sand
Filtration, Fluval 405

If you're CERTAIN that the red zebra (blue) IS in fact that AND it was the one which spawned with your female, then you can move her to a smaller maternity tank or strip her. If there is no confirmation 'who the daddy is', you can also leave her in the main tank, since it's likely the fry will be hybrid. A small percentage may manage to survive.

Thanks for the reply. I actually had three other red zebras that were in the tank with her, so they could as well have been "daddy". They had been removed on Saturday and traded off. But I am going to watch this for a few more days and confirm if she is really holding. She is still a juvenile and this was very unexpected. Thanks again.
