This is micro-alage go to your local store and get some kent pro-clear it will cause the alage to clump togeather so your filters can catch it it will work reduce the amount of light
Make sure and clean your filter boxes as there can be tons of unused food in there which is perfect for algae to feed off of. As a last resort there are tones of algae removers at your local LFS. I've pesonally used Jungles "No More Algae" on occasion. Beware if you have delicate spieces as this can be tough on them.
What's your nitrate level, how long are the tank lights on and is the tank exposed to sunlight? How large are your water changes and how often? What type of chemical filtration media do you use?
Do you see how your tank looks green? That IS the algae. Do you mean its not clinging to rocks or the walls as to why you said you didn't see any algae in the water?
Michael, you mentioned the recent 50% water change, but what has been the ROUTINE? (for example, 50% every two weeks, 50% every few months??). What is IN this 10gal tank?
You mentioned a 10 gallon filter...if this is only 10 gallon then dump it out, clean everything andrefill it with water from your dad's tank. THEN put the tank where it does not get direct sunlight, only have the lights on 8 hours a day (use a timer on your plug). Algae gets bad with light and excess nutrients in the water. Cut back on the amount you feed or vacuum regularly as well as changing water.
No offense but i feel much better looking at this tank at the same time picking up alot of pointers.. having the same problem but my fish guy says has to be something with the live plants a littele sunlight.. or probably the water itself..
QUESTION: Is it okay if i dont put anti chlorine? will it reduce chances of algae build up? by the im in a tropical country really humid could that be it? please pm for help or post here
