Check chemicals micheal.. Ammonia nitrate nitrite and ph. Must be a problem somewhere. How much water did you change?

Looks like you have a really bad algae bloom. Reduce light and get a UV sterilizer. They make a few things that kill the algae bloom too.

Chris email me. hopper3483@bellsouth.net about money.

This is micro-alage go to your local store and get some kent pro-clear it will cause the alage to clump togeather so your filters can catch it it will work reduce the amount of light

Make sure and clean your filter boxes as there can be tons of unused food in there which is perfect for algae to feed off of. As a last resort there are tones of algae removers at your local LFS. I've pesonally used Jungles "No More Algae" on occasion. Beware if you have delicate spieces as this can be tough on them.

What's your nitrate level, how long are the tank lights on and is the tank exposed to sunlight? How large are your water changes and how often? What type of chemical filtration media do you use?

Are you sure this is a algae bloom I dont see any algae in the water?
michael diaz » posted 2007/11/02 - 03:35
Kay,I got this tanks at Wal-Mart it has a bubbler and a ten gallon filter.I toke about 50 percent of the water today may have been to much!

Do you see how your tank looks green? That IS the algae. Do you mean its not clinging to rocks or the walls as to why you said you didn't see any algae in the water?
Kay Bee19 » posted 2007/11/02 - 12:40
Also what size tank, what size fish, how many fish and how often are they fed?
Nathan Sederholm » posted 2007/11/02 - 20:08
Just get an Algae eater.
michael diaz » posted 2007/11/03 - 00:07
I have a algae eater the tank is ten-gallons and I dont see the algae is not clinging to the wall
Kay Bee19 » posted 2007/11/03 - 00:21
An algae eater would be ineffective in this circumstance.

Michael, you mentioned the recent 50% water change, but what has been the ROUTINE? (for example, 50% every two weeks, 50% every few months??). What is IN this 10gal tank?
Jerry Goebert » posted 2007/11/03 - 00:31
You mentioned a 10 gallon filter...if this is only 10 gallon then dump it out, clean everything andrefill it with water from your dad's tank. THEN put the tank where it does not get direct sunlight, only have the lights on 8 hours a day (use a timer on your plug). Algae gets bad with light and excess nutrients in the water. Cut back on the amount you feed or vacuum regularly as well as changing water.

I chane about 25 percent every two weeks I only have a pleco and two baby convicts in their
matty c » posted 2007/11/04 - 09:51
i would of thought the pleco would eat most of the algae ,mine do
David Forrest » posted 2007/11/05 - 07:45
I am telling you man get some pro-clear made by kent it will fix your problem trust me
earl anthony » posted 2007/11/05 - 08:07
No offense but i feel much better looking at this tank at the same time picking up alot of pointers.. having the same problem but my fish guy says has to be something with the live plants a littele sunlight.. or probably the water itself..

QUESTION: Is it okay if i dont put anti chlorine? will it reduce chances of algae build up? by the im in a tropical country really humid could that be it? please pm for help or post here
martin odea » posted 2007/11/05 - 08:30
Is this a recuring problem with more than one tank, or just this one?
karrie edwards » posted 2007/11/05 - 08:39
You know a lot of copper in your water can cause this prob. to.
martin odea » posted 2007/11/05 - 08:46
