I would go for it ! An all in one complete lid - too cool - less peices to deal with - only thing is I wonder if they sell replacements parts for it if something goes wrong and as for not being able to find one the right size if it is the lid you need have your local glass store cut you a 3/16 piece of glass to the size you need and you can order the plastic hinges nline and make your own canopy for a lot less- costs me $60 to make all new lids for the 150 - 3 lids in all !

Hey Crystal...You don't even need to order hinges..Just lay the glass on a flat surface, in the closed position , Put a bead of silicone where the front piece and back piece mett and let it dry 48 hours... It's a perfect hinge and lasts for years!!

Actually Crystal...I put masking tape about 3\4 of an inch over the split between the two peices of glass, then put a bead of silicone down and smooth it with my finger. the excess goes on the tape which you remove imediately, and leaves a nice straight , clean looking line!! It lasts like 10 years!

Wes thanks man I may just try that - just got new glass for my 150 and the darn hinges were different than my previous hinges and now it is too wide for the glass to inset like it should - so this may be the answer !

Crystal where do you get glass from? is there like a website or is it your secret glass person...i've been looking for a good place to get glass for tanks as well.

Justin there are different ways to go about it - the cheaper way is to check the yellow pages for a glass-pane-auto-dealer in your area - most carry 3/16 in glass and have scrap peices lying around they can cut to size for very resonable - there is also a great website called glasscages.com that sells all the supplies you would need to build your own tank even sells the frames for $13 for a 55 gallon -- check them out and best of luck

Justin, i have a little 30 gallon with one of these type hoods on it. mine is a eclipse system and i really like it. it actually holds charcoal and a bio wheel. and i am pretty sure they sell replacement parts for these too. the only thing about them is that they aren't real good for real "dirty" fish. or a whole lot of fish. and putting in more filtration can be a little tricky because of the hood. i tried 2 small jacks in this tank first, but had to put them in a tank with more filtration, even with weekly water changes. just my experience, hope it helps! :)
