russell, you can always ask your LFS to order you stuff when they do their supply buy, then you wouldnt have to pay for shipping and should end up giving your LFS more business, which they all need.

No LFS here just wal-marts and prive pet stores two of them or I can drive 2hr. to the big city

Russell i have a fluval fx5 and i put the carbon in a bag. with the fx5 if the carbon falls through the basket and into the impeller it could damage it.

Thanks for the info, so do you reuse the bags or where do you get them Tony

if you gunna use carbon in it, it has to be in something. if you cant get a bag from fluval, just use some panthose. like tomy said, loose carbone wiil hurt your impeller.

Hey Russell. I have 3 Fluval Canisters.
403 305 404... Don't put small stuff that could get jammed in the inpella. if you use the carbon just make sure it in something. Some people use other things for the bags, but I don't know about those to much. most people don't even use carbon that much anymore...
email if you have any questions about the filter

Russell, I don't use the carbon in mine anymore. Still works great.
Russell Patton » posted 2008/03/23 - 02:09

I don't use carbon either. Carbon is really only necessary when removing meds. Joe and Christie, I got a canister that came with my 120. Its not a fluval, but a Jebo and I was hesitant to use it at all. After putting to Emporer 400s on the 120 and needing a good filter for the 29gal I bought a week or so ago, I decided to clean up the canister and use it on that tank. I am very impressed, these things are quiet and from what I understand provide an excellent means of mechanical and biological filtration, not to mention all I have is two tubes running behind my tank instead of a bulky hang-on.

i've got a jebo and i love it shawn , like you said totally quiet and not much for tank clutter . i ditched the carbon as well and added another foam pad and more ceramic bio media in extra tray

carbon causes hole in the head with large cichlids just use sponges ceramics to hold all the bacteria and if you want crystal clear water put marina polywool in the tops of your trays (above the ceramics)it will collect all the smallest of particals

matty c » posted 2008/03/24 - 20:34
also the marina polywool is totaly re-usable all you got to do is wash it in your tank water when you clean the filter every few months,
