Hannibully got the Sh** beat out of him
Hannibully got the Sh** beat out of him
ok do you all remember Hannibully. Well when I upsized my tank and went with Haps and Peacocks, he went to my neighbors house, all of the Mbuna's did. Well they left yesterday on vacation and I am dog and fish sitting. Went there last night and found him floating at the top looking like this. There is a very dominant FEMALE Kenyi in there. I brought him home as I had just taken the Lab babies to the LFS and cleaned the nursery tank in preparation for momma lab to spit very very soon. I put Hannibully in the nursery tank alone, took out carbon filter and treated with Melafix. He's no longer floating, he did eat some frozen krill today. Anything else I should do?

Yeah...while you're dog sitting check out their tank. Are there enough caves ? How are the water parameters ? Ph, salt, temperture, air flow...etc

She has 8 Mbuna's this size in a 20gal, I have told her its to small and when she got back she was planning on getting a 55gal and I told her I would help her set it up. For now I brought this one to my house and am treating it myself. Water was prewtty cold to me as well so I turned her heater up a bit. She has got to upgrade her tank. There is another one, I think an electric johanni that looks beat up also but is in much better shape that Hannibully here was.

I'm in a predicament as I set this nursery tank up because momma Lab should be spitting anyday now. I think I might put a divider in the 30gal brichardi tank and put him in there until she gets home and decides what she's gonna do. I was really surprised he made it through the night. He could barely swim yesterday.

dividers are great...push her on the 55 when she returns...20 is WAY too small

Yeah I know, however when I gave her these guys they were small and I told her then they would outgrow relatively quickly and to upgrade. In fact she came down last week and was asking about a 55, so hopefully this will do it. She's in LA, she won a contest with FOX TV for trip to LA for American Idol finale!! Cool.

ok divider is in the 30 gal tank and I put Hannibully in there. He seems to be doing better and I think he'll pull through. I am however having a heck of a time catching momma lab. Been trying for hours
