Hannibal Bully
Hannibal Bully
Metriaclima estherae
This is the culprit. He chases everyone. I just bought a 110 gal yesterday so I can keep the frontosa in another tank. My male kenyi had a standoff with him this morning. Nothing more than a stare down. I love this lil guy, but dang he's aggressive. Any suggestions on humbling him a bit?

Anyone with any ideas on how to calm him a bit? He was shaking at all the fish last weekend. Maybe he needs a girl??? I don't even know if he's a male LOL

I believe thats acrually a Metriaclima greshakei as the estheraes have blue finnage. One thing to try would be to move your deco/rocks around some.

IS this a male? Would gettig him a mate help, he is shaking himself at everyone. Maybe just sexual aggression?? ANyone with thoughts on that please?

Greshakei was formerly found under the Pseudotopheus genus and is still listed under that on this website. This is definitely a male.

If you do get females, get 2 or 3. You should be able to tell they are female because they don't have the blue coloration. They are more of a dull brown. Also, your kenyi is a Metriaclima lombardoi and, if its a male, they are probably fighting over territory. If its a female lombardoi there could be some crossbreeding issues.

Lol..I saw your other post. They are definitely fighting over dominance imo.

Ok just got Hannibal 3 ladies....lets hope this calms him. LOL as soon as I put the girls in there he started shaking all over the place. I think the boy is just in the mood.

I have one very similar to that , but the stripes don't go down over the face. Best I can come up with is a red top cobalt zebra ...

I saw in another post you said he was the fastest growing and mine was the same .. He was the smallest in the tank and now is the biggest , and mean as heck .. But he did all the shakin around and stuff .... I put him in a five gallon for the time being with a small demasoni and they are fine ..He was starting to whale on my yellow lab ...
Anyway all you said about yours in the pic is identical in behavior to mine ....

Yeah mean as heck these fish! Although recently the male kenyi has been putting him in his place and is trying to attempt a coup in the tank and take over. THis would be good.
