how big of a tank do these need?

They need at least a 75 gallon since they get up tp 10". They are aggressive towards conspecifics that are not part of the pair. Its recommended to either buy two that have already paired or buy several and let them pair then remove the others. This is what I did. You should only keep one successful pair unless you have a huge tank.
