Karrie, if you have tips/experience shipping, you are more than welcome to him. I just dont want to wing it and hurt/kill teh poor guy.
Thanks Travis, he came from an overcrowded tank at a local place, and he was hiding in a corner... couldnt bear to leave him there :) Now ... I have no room or an adult GT.
well ty frank, but i have a male and a female, and they are getting large. I really dont have the room either, but you know you should just try to take him to a nice lfs, that you know will give him a good home, or run an add in the local paper for a home for him. See how that goes?
Yup, there is one store I trust near me (not the place I got him from), so I will probably bring him there. They will give me a small store credit. I just hate the idea that someone with half a brain might buy him and put him in a fishbowl or something.
I guess my worry is bagging them right, as far as making sure there is enough air in the bag. That, and do you put a little heating pack in there? or just wrap the bag in lots of newspaper for insulation?
Hey Frank i have a 150 gallon tank i posted pix of all my fish...all little guys except 4 tex . i think he'd make a great addition to my tank .. If no1 claimed him yet. and im in NJ
I worry a little about introducing a new fish to that tank - it looks nice, but lots of aggressive fish in there (RD, RT especially) :) How close are you to Long Island? Would you be able to pick him up? April, I am in Nassau County, Long Island, NY.
Eew? Not really rainy ... hot in the summer, cold in the winter, 40 minutes from New York city, 15 minutes to the beach. Property is expensive, but we have a nice place (4br,2bath), so we're not going anywhere. :)
Christine - get another tank, I'll drop him off Saturday :) lol

Sorry the "Eew" was for my daughter....She was sharing her Breakfast with the dog....lol
That's sounds like a nice property.
Our town is 3500 Pop. and Houses were 40-60 thousand but now 200-500 thousand dollars for the same property ! Farms are just as exspensive as the town houses all to do with our new Hospital...Very Over Rated but hey that's why I sold my house now gonna get a new one !
LOL...Very nice that Ur fingers are pre-programmed! Mine are too .
What kind of fish you all got over their?
Guys,I have a question?I put in a little cichlids about the same size as my expensive one in the ten gallon which has been running for about 2 days and he made it the night and swiming very happliy if he made it the night can I take him out and put my expensive without worring that he will die??
I can't answer this Question...Too bad Roger or JR wasn't on too answer this for you....They seem to be good at the breeding and introducing fish catergory....Look for them on here later they should be on ;)
michael i would let it run a little longer or did u use some old water from another tank to cycle it? but to be on safe side leave for a little longer.
i would not recomend it unless you have a filter off an established tank, it depends on the type hardiness of the fish. i have gotten by with it but have lost fish too
I always leave my tanks run empty for new fish for at least a week then I know for sure that their isn't some thing wrong to jepardize it's life.
I Quarenteen my new ones for 10 days or so then if they are sick you don't infect your whole tank.... ?
Christian, I can take that extra tank off your hands, solves that problem :) lol
April, I have two tanks - 72 gallon bowfront and 29 gallon. I keep Central American cichlids (this guy is south american, but he was a rescue effort from a dirty store). I prefer a tank with 5-6 medium sized fish, rather than large groups of small fish required for most African setups. Plus, tapwater PH is ideal for CA fish without adding any chems.
Stores here have decent fish from time to time, but I've found mail order still the way to go.
Bow, like bow and arrow :) Not being picky, just so you know where the term comes from :) I test twice a week - once before a water change (so that if I need to do a larger change than normal, I can), and once the next day, after the new water has had time to mix with the rest of the system.
LOL....sorry the Blonde kicking in early today....Thankx ;)
Playing with baby abd typing is kinda a task today....Nap time coming up ;)
Really that's all a person should check the ph unless their is sickly lookin fish ... ?
The funny thing is I have the ph kits but never used em...Oops did I just admitt to a mistake?
christian you should be fine to add the fish, i would with no worries, other tank water and bio wheel is great. i fill a tank and pull a sponge from one and throw fish in it in an hour provided i have the temp right.
I'm sure the fish will be fine. Get an ammonia test kit, and check every day or two for ammonia spikes. If your ammonia stays at 0ppm for a week, you're good to go.
Right, because nothing was in it (or there was 1 little fish), so there is really nothing making ammonia (pee, poop, etc). Keep an eye on it for a week straight. If the tank is not cycled, you will see a spike. If you see a spike, do SMALL water changes, to give fresh water to the tank without re-starting the cycle.
Takes two minutes to test ammonia ... I would do it, just to be on the safe side. Two minutes a day for seven days is not much to make sure the fish is comfortable in his new home :)
Yeah, most likely - but only you can tell for sure, by checking your water. Believe me, from someone who lost fish to an unexpected water quality problem, its better to come on here and say "I had an ammonia spike, whats the best way to handle it?", rather than saying "My fish is acting weird (or is dead), what do i do?" :)
Christie, some have responded, but have mega aggro tanks and are out of state, or are local, but have no room :) 500 hits and no solid takers with a home that will be comfortable for him. I can see how people end up with 10 tanks :)
I just finished convincing my wife that it is a good idea to have 3 tanks - 72 gal, 29 gal, and a 10 gal for medicine/fry. If I tell her I need another she'll slash my tires :)
Update: Local, clean LFS where I grew up - a few towns over, will take him tomorrow AM and actually give me a decent store credit. They have knowledgable staff, and have lots of regular custoemrs with established tanks. They think they can find him a home within the week (of course for a profit :) ) Gonna miss him, but its for the best - dont have the space. Thanks to all that inquired, and for all the positive comments.
any clue what she is
