Freshly stripped psedotropheus zebra fry
Freshly stripped psedotropheus zebra fry
Pseudotropheus zebra
I just noticed a few days ago that she was holding. when i finally got her in my net she had spit out 3 fry which still had a little bit of the yolk sack. so i put her in the breader net, and she picked the 3 fry back up. and then tonight i decided to strip them cause i was afraid she would swallow them! 14 total 3 are displaying stripes.

is there a reason why some are orangish white and some dark?

the dark ones have stripes i am still unsure on the whole male female thing the mother was red i thought that only females were red and that males were blue or with some striped variation but i am confused????

could be crossbreeds

I have read somewhere that the males are blue.

Congrats !If they are red zebras males are naturally blue, hatched brown, with red females & a few red males. Through selective breeding red males are no longer a rare site.

Vince that is good to know

Not doubting what you said Vince but just did some research and found that due to extensive breeding it is poosible to have lighter color orange be males and the females still carry the darker orange coloration.. but true Pseudotropheus Estherae males are a powder blue according to what I just researched.

Do you have a male blue-morph red zebra in the tank which could have sired these fry?
Dane Daley » posted 2008/07/07 - 21:18
The dark striped ones can also turn out to be orange blotched, as was the case with a brood from my esteraes a while back.

Yes i have Some Blue zebras in there.

Cobalt blue zebras (metriaclima callainos) or blue morph red zebras (metriaclima estherae)? That would determine whether the fry are hybrid or not.
