If it is it should be colored by now. Mine is only 3 1/2 to 4 inches. It may be a female if so that is all the color your going to get..

If it were a male before now it should have had a blue face..

nice fish. It could very well be a male but if you have a boss fish in your tank it may also be playing sub dominant.. I have a Male G. Red and he is a bout 3" and has yet to color up because our M. Red and Aul. Nyassae Males are dominate over him..

They are pretty when they do color up though..

it had a blue face when i first got him but coulda been those color enhancer things the breeders like to do these days...lee i think you are right...he has always been the scared type and always hiding so yea he might be sub dominant....gonna set up a peacock only tank soon so maybe that will help...thnx guyz!

sounds sub dominate to me,but never seen them lose color before but, I am new to the peacocks and this is the first G.Red we have had well except for the 8 fry we have growing out. we have 2 M. Reds and they are about the same size and only one of them is getting color..

Lee from my experience if they turn blue, they will fade to black. I have never seen one go back to complete young dimorphic coloring from being subdominate. If they are not colored up much they could. I just have never seen it. I am still a rookie at this.
