Still holding-over two weeks...
Still holding-over two weeks...
moved her to 10gl by herself..been about 2 weeks now and the "bulge" is getting bigger...not the best pic, but you can see it a little under jaw area. Put some pantyhose over filter intake just in case she spits and also have a sponge filter running...

lol-trust me, I am learning and have some great people like Roger, Bip, Kylie, Lee, Frank...on and on....that teach me. It took me about an hour to find the best way to get the darn things on intake without plugging up water flow...lol kylie, I'll try and get u a pic with them on.....the filter that is! lol

Good to know someone listens to me, my wife dosen't lol ha ha ha. Why should she I have to do what she says anyway.. Shes my best friend. Call when you can Jamie..

Will do Roger-honestly, I'm not much of a phone person, but do like to keep in touch with people that are real and honest-so, I will be in touch, thanks.
Since I moved her from empty 55gl, what should I put in there now? I'm still thinking peacocks, but once the fry get bigger from Taiwan (if they make it) I'll need to put somewhere and the 55gl is all I have now open..

Jamie the fry will be okay in the 10 for awhile..

still holding....

Hopefully soon Jamie! Really though she may hold for 3 weeks. Also You really dont need the power filter if you have a sponge filter running.. then you don't have to worry about the fry getting stuck to it..
The suction can still have enough pull to pin them to the intake tube and cause death.. So I would remove the power filter and add some hiding places for the fry,she will try to eat them after a few hours, remember she has not ate in weeks.. the temptation becomes to great. lost half of my first batch of fry that way.

Also Jamie start looking for a tank like a 20 long makes god grow out tank or a 30 gallon. Where I live Meijer carries the 20L tank for $29.00,just a tank no extras..

Congrats again!!

Thanks Lee....I have the stocking over in take right now. I have a 30gl, but the convicts are in there now, breeding. So, will have to figure something out. I have an empty 55gl running as well that I plan on eventually putting peacocks in...I have a 2x2 slate tile in 10gl right now covering a small area for hiding, but will try to do some more. Any suggestions? Also, where do u live? Never heard of Meijer, and use craigslist alot, but hard to find the 20L just by themselves...

I live in Goshen, Indiana.

Jamie I Use just plain old rock from the field.... just clean it really good. let it sit in you bathtub or sink in as hot a water as you can get and then use a new vegetable scrub brush to scrub all the dirt and junk off, make sure it is clean and then it is good to go... I post a pick of my field rock in my 155 gallon tank
scott king » posted 2008/04/04 - 18:48
As a matter of interest, every single one of my rocks in my tank is from the field, As Lee said i leave them in boiling water in the bath for a couple hours, scrub them and then into the tank. A word of advice though is dont pick sandstone that tends to cloud the water and also crumbles while you clean it. Good Luck
