Someone told me they used to cull the blues cause they were thought to be runts..i only came across them cause the guy at my local fish shop went to a show in Birmingham..when i seen them i jus had to get them..not cheap at £40 each.. but i think their worth it!!

thank you..how can you tell its a female at this size???
eduardo martinez » posted 2008/11/02 - 15:23
you see that black dot on her body, thats how. males dont have that . 2nd she has very short dorsal fin. males at that size tend to have longer ones. im breedin some blues as we speak.

you can tell when she gets bigger she will have a nice gold shine to her as well. my suggestion . if you can find one out there in the uk buy a blue gene dempsey male and breed them. if you want the run down on how to breed them just email me @ ikn0wed@aol.com and i will tell you how the whole thing works

thanks for your help... is it true you need to breed bluse with a normal JD to get the blue offspring???

good luck by the way..let me know how it goes
eduardo martinez » posted 2008/11/02 - 15:34
well yes and no. the reason you breed reg to a blue (unless you have a blue gene ) is to get 25% blue gene ,25% blue and 50% reg demps. these blues are weak but not as weak as blue on blue breeding cause they are the weakest. you have to look at blue dempsey's as the retards of the family. very pretty but weak. so you have to throw in some reg (strong ) genes with them so they will survive.
