Good luck turn the filters off LOL
Juan Damelines » posted 2009/06/09 05:12 am
not a smart move, (turning off ur filter can lead to bad stuff) (i lost some Fancy plecos to my dumbness of leaving a filer off during a WC (Tank was a bit overstock)
Anthony Cintron » posted 2009/06/09 05:24 am
I had Plecos too when I saw the fry I turned off my filters and removed them but Im pretty sure Tony knows what to do.

Thanks All. I wouldn't turn off the filters Anthony, no need to. If I keep the fry, they will be in a breeding container for a little while.
Fourd, I'd gladly give you some fry. You are so right S M.
tony henderson » posted 2009/06/10 07:47 pm
bip and s m that why i strip mine as soon as i know they are hatched,i feel it is alot less stress in the long run on the fish to get the fry out then mom can go back to eatin and her old ways not to mention not gettin pecked at all the time
tony henderson » posted 2009/06/10 07:49 pm
oh ya and dont turm off the filter then you might endanger everything
bip_ 4u (m) » posted 2009/06/10 07:53 pm
I am going to catch her soon, or at least make the attempt, lol. I haven't ever stripped a fish, I just let them spit on their own. Might give it a try. Although letting her get back to her old ways, Sluggo will have her knocked up again in no time, lol. I would never turn off the filter. If anything I would cover the intake with a stocking. Thanks Tony.
tony henderson » posted 2009/06/10 08:03 pm
bip you can catch her make sure you have a container with water already and gently hold her in your hand over the container and she will start spittin them out it might take a minute you might even have to kinda dip her nose first and thay will all come out unharmed and in less than a minute or two shes back on her merry way i even feed as soon as you put her back in and she will prob start eatin right away i have one female abour 5 yrs old and 10 to 15b batches of fry,she spits them in the net as soon as i catch her now, makes it real easy, give it a try sometime youll be surprised and prob start doin it that way again in the long run that 1 to 2 mins stress on her is nothin like what they had or will go through, not to mention you prob end up with all the fry not a partial batch
Wes St. Jean (m) » posted 2009/06/10 08:19 pm
Anthony!! never turn your filter off... 90% of your tanks biological bacteria are within the filter, cause of the high water flow through it, turning it off is going to cause a fast deterioration in water quality... Just a heads up bud!!

Lol Christie. How are you feeling? Getting pretty close for you too now, huh? I miss seeing you and your fish. Hope all is well.

Here she is with her mouthful Caine. I finally caught her, she's in a breeder container now. She won't release, really stressed from the ordeal. I'm just going to let her be for now and let her calm down.
Caine Hodkinson » posted 2009/06/14 02:37 pm
Whats a breeder container bip? is it another tank?
bip_ 4u (m) » posted 2009/06/14 02:45 pm
Same concept as a breeder net, just clear plastic that floats in the main tank. Here's a link that closely resembles the one I have...

bip_ 4u (m) » posted 2009/06/16 11:31 am
Oh cool. I'll go have a look. It's funny you chose this pic to say hello, I finally caught her last night after seeing 1 fry swimming around the tank. I put her in the container and once she calmed down, I only wound up with 7 little ones. Couldn't find the one that was swimming in the tank.
