Nice con, Frank, how are you and Christine doing? Hey Travis whats shakin'
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/12 - 03:31
Thanks Roger. Christine is doing a bit better - she just went to sleep - god bless ambien :)

Travis, thanks, if you like the Cutteri, I'm going to attempt to breed them - I have a 29gal - big enough for Cutteri, too small for breeding Sals. If all works out, you are more than welcome to some fry.

beautiful fish.......be careful witht hte ambien, working in the ER in the past have seen some messed up people on it. SOme just seem to be sensitive.

The stuff is crazy ... my wife has Lupus, so sleeping in pain is nearly impossible. The Ambien has been a godsend, but .... it whacks you out if you dont go right to sleep. Can be scary.

wow. he is a pretty male. Do you have a female??? cuz i have 2 males and 2 females and all they do is lay eggs! it was cool at first but now i feel bad cuz they always get eatin by others
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/12 - 03:56
Thanks Robby. He's in a community with other CA cichlids, no pairs. Eaten fry/eggs is free food :) Don't feel bad, its a normal cycle. I didnt want to deal with aggression due to spawning in a community, so I keep single fish.

Nice con! Frank there has been a lot of new research comming out that points towards gluten sensitivity as a major factor in Lupus. You should have your wife try a gluten free diet and see if it helps her.

Thanks Aaron. I believe she's tried that, since a friend of hers has Celiacs disease, and does the same. She's quite the advocate and fireball, does lots of researching and arguing with doctors :)

Yep, both autoimmune diseases and somewhat related. Sounds like you have a smart girl Frank. Glad to hear she has taken the lead in researching this from different angels. That's very important.

Frank, i would love to meet her some day, sounds amazing.. The constant pain is a real treat to deal with.. lol
6 years and still kicking, just not to high at times.

She was diagnosed at 16, and is 30 now. She has been an active member of he local Lupus Alliance affiliate, does speaking engagements, and runs an "Invisible Diseases" website and online community. I'm very proud of her. We were in Washington DC last week speaking with members of Congress to raise Lupus awareness. Are you or a loved one affected by an autoimmune disease?

By the way, to tie my wife in to the picture, Christine calls this fish "Zoey" because it looks like a zebra :)

Thanks Roger, She's the greatest - just doesnt like fish :) I convinced her to get married at an aquarium though .... :) If you watch PBS, you may catch her on TV, on a show called "Keeping Kids Healthy" - they did a feature on her/Lupus.

God bless her, anyone that has it at a young age. I was in my 50's when I got sick.. one day swelled up and in 5 months was in a wheelchair. on my way home from work.

My mom, sister and myself all have different autoimmune diseases. We were all diagnosed about 15 years ago.

Crazy how things happen Roger ... I guess you never know.

Aaron - I hope this isnt construed as advertising, but I mentioned to Roger also, take a look at www.butyoudontlooksick.com ... my wife's site, and lots of information and wonderful people to connect with, especially on the forums.
Roger Hopper » posted 2008/03/12 - 04:34
Frank, copied that site again, I think it may be this Vista program. I have trouble with a lot of sites with it.
Aaron B » posted 2008/03/12 - 04:35
Roger - It is amazing how many people have autoimmune disease. We are the lucky ones who at least know what the problem is. There are soo many people out there that have these diseases and don't know whats wrong with them.

Frank - I will defenently check it out. The domaine name says it all. Tell your wife thank you for me.
Frank Donato » posted 2008/03/12 - 04:41
Cant stand Vista ... as an IT person, I refuse to use it :)

I will do Aaron, and you are right about the amount of people going undiagnosed, or receiving poor care and heavy 'catch all' type meds that mask problems rather than fixing them.
Roger Hopper » posted 2008/03/12 - 04:42
Aaron, good Dr's are a rare thing anymore. My first Rheumatologist let me go way to far. I will never come back even with the new meds. It did to much damage to my joints. Remecade helps a lot..
Aaron B » posted 2008/03/12 - 14:38
Sorry to hear that Roger. Hopefully science will advance enough to be able to help reverse this for you. I also had the same type of thing happen. I had a rash start flarring up on me. My regular MD perscribed me cortisone and told me it was psoriasis. A year and many doctor apointments later it covered 80% of my body. I finally went to a dermatologist who took one look at me and said "I know what the problem is". Lucky for me he was correct. Information, second & third opinions are the key. Unfortuanatly it's up to the individual to take the initiative these days.
