I remember one time we imported some C. spectabilis, crazy little predators. Unfortunately they were parasitized by some weird amphipod type things. they wer living in the body of the fish between the peritoneum (membrane covering the internal organs) and the muscle of the fish. They actually bored holes into the belly of the fish and were noticable as their gills?,or feeding apendages? were extended from the belly of the fish. They were quite large(about 1.5 times the size of a pea) whitish grey and segmented just like a creepy alien sow bug. We sent them off to the parasitology Lab at Guelph University, but never got an answer as to what they were. Weird stuff lives in the Amazon. We excized the parasites with a scalpel and a pair of tweezers. The fish actually survived for some time after this, but we were never able to keep a belly on them.
