why would you change that much at one time? Just curious.

you changing with ro water or regular tap/well water ? never heard of anything that large most discus breeders i talked to when i had mine rarely went over a 15-25 % change every 3-4 days . thats a pretty drastic ph change at one time i'd think . **note ** not being a smart glutius maximus . just questioning it? :O)

Harvick, 30-60% is normal from some of the worlds most famous discus breeders. But then this is old skool guys from 15Yrs back.Like You said that could be a drastic ph change if the replacement water isn't treated first to be close to the tank water

hey john ! how ya been ? most of the guys i talked to were doing less but more often changes versus the large weekly changes . they said it kept ph and other water parameters more stable . but i guess whatever works without a loss works . i never used ro water for mine . with the quantity of wood and tannins i had in my tank the ph was pretty stable with just well water . fish all thrived and werent stressed so i guess whatever works . just was questioning the large change , it seemed a bit drastic . but tangs always had very nice looking fish and it seems to be working for him .

I been pretty good Harvick, and how are You! They were doing 30 - 60 every 2-3days.This is from a book by Jack Wattley where he asked some of the worlds top breeders how they keep and breed their discus.

Ohh.. SD.. good luck with that. I hear its hard to get fish up there :(...

As far as the water changes, they were bred and raised in local tap water, so they are used to it. I am just following what the breeder tells me to do. ( I have peat filtration and decent amount of wood soo it seems to all be working well.)

Good to see you back Harvick!

when i was keeping dicus a year or so ago i was doing 50% wc's everyday.

myblue diamonds spawned several times and i had insane growth.

with my tropheus i change 100% twice weekly.

i know your thinking how do you change 100%.
i drain it down to about 3", fill it up half way and drain it down to 3" again.

my trophs LOVE IT!!!

as far as i know large very frequent wc's is the norm for discus.

i have many many discus breeders in houston, icluding houston aquarium wharehouse, formerly gulfcoastdiscus.
and dan the former owner is nation renound for his discus keeping, and thats what they reccomend.

personally i never do less then a %75 wc twice weekly. except for when i kept my altum angels, then i was doing 10-15% every 10 days.
