That's definitely a male.

Females are brown to deep violet almost. They don't have the beautiful blue coloration that the males do.

Do the females have the red top still ? Mine is a not blue but that brownish violet you described... She is still a beast though..

Nice pic and fish ......

ty Shawn. on the original post about this fish, i stated it was brown when i placed the bag in the tank and on release. michelle explained that it may have changed to female colours to hide itself with blue being in the tank. soon as i put it in the breeder net, it turned blue. so tyvm both for your help. poor thing turned to it's good side for the photo too. it's got several scales missing on the other side..

They do have some coloration in their dorsal fins, but it is more of a burnt orange with a white blaze on the tips, whereas the males have a brigher orange which turns more red as he matures.

shawn to answer your other questions i have just the one female with him. the new one was supposed to be a second girl for him with hoping to add a third later in the week. it's a 240l tank at the moment but i have a 400l
on the way this week for the blue and his mbuna friends and the 240 will be for my moorii and sailfin pleco and a couple of more peaceful mates.

Very nice. Sounds like you have everything under control. Either tank would have been suitable for the greshakei and his harem, but the 400l will definitely be nice. I wish I had more than a 55g mbuna tank, but I chose to go with a SA biotope in my 120g. I suppose my next large tank will be a 6' for mbuna so I can house auratus and crabro.

Thanks Shawn, the orange on her dorsal and tail fin is still very nice and on the dorsal very front their is a very small trail of blue. It's thin and doesn't go all the way back , but it all looks good when she is fired up ..

Again, a nice pic posted.......:)
