the worst part is that it really has nothing to do with most cichlids as they would not survive in native ecosystems

exactly wat i was thinkin Ed!! They are worried about us releasing our fish from other places into our native waters but do they honestly think these fish would survive in our waters? Jeez they are soo stupid!

I seriously doubt this bill will pass. The impact to the economy (Billions and Billions of $) is not something the US government is likely to test in the current economy. It is more likely to be passed at a state level (Fla, Cali or other states with a sub-tropical climate. I don't think Canada has much to worry about due to our climate.

I have also voiced my opinion on the matter. I think it's asinine. Hope the bill drops dead on the floor.
Good point about the economy James.

I don't want to sound rude, but so what if the darn fish take over local waterways. Hell I am sick of walking miles along rivers and not seeing a single fish.
And I do not agree with you Ed, a lot of cichlids COULD easily live in our local rivers, its called adaptation, everything will undergo it to survive. It only takes 3 fish (well two if they are smart) to survive one winter then they can start to reproduce. Heck, Gymnos could EASILY survive winters in local lakes and rivers. I am dead against this bill and as James said, it will not happen. They have tried to pass this bill for the past 10 years and never has come close.

nate i did not say NO cichlids could survive i hate know it alls and thats why i never claim to have expert knowledge of something but keep up the good work nate i'm sure there are plenty of people who enjoy your witty remarks. and by the way i'd like to see gymnos taking over and "adapting" to a local waterway, i think the targets here are snakeheads and the like that can survive and take advantage of the local species not gymnos or mbuna or what most cichlid hobbyists keep
