Thank u kylie and Bloop to anwser ur question it is yellow i didnt really even notice it before give me a minute and i will post a couple more pics for you to check out unfornatley he was in the middle of letting out some waste
Robert it is hard to explain but they are the same. They were called haplochromis Ahli, or electric blue Ahli, they then reclassified them as a scieanichromis Fryeri. From what I can find they are 1 in the same. They change the names all the time. Frontosa's have had 6 different names since in the books. Confused yet?
lol thnks make me more confused love it!!! haha anybody got any tips on soome good fish to go with him? im starting a new tank he is in the quarantine tank and is going into a 55 with two yellow labs right now but i wanted some peacocks any other suggestions?
Robert as long as you stay away from the more aggressive mbuna's they do well with most mildly aggressive malawi's. Word of warning, they are the layboys of lake malawi, as well. They will breed with most haps and peacocks. Moori Dolphins would be fine, and beautiful. Acei's Borlleyi's they like to group though.
I am not sure but some OB's have the electric blue on them from the peacocks. It would be very pretty. imo I am waiting to see our fruity pebbles. My strawbeery and tangerine breed. she spit 7 fry. bTo small to really tell colors.
rob the combo that roger listed is almost exactly what i have...so rob ur not A "Mass Hole" are yah? LOL a lil NY/NJ joke i guess..if yah try to do the OB peacock thing, try and find one that is really orange..not a faded yellowy pink color.
o yea i know i want an orangy one for the tank anyways and yes im a boston mass-hole haha im proud of it too o and yes i think the red sox have the ring this year???
yeah.. ok the yank time has been over for some time now, you guys deserve the ring, BUT, and i say this w/ the BIGGEST BUTT, the PATRIOTS LOST THE SUPER BOWL!!!!! and im not a giants fan either!
Kylie!! Once my kids are in bed I chill out watching mine!! I dont need TV LOL!!!! And at home the flippin internet aint workin at bthe mo so cant chat on here :(
never used it.. might need to wash it lots.. i think someone else said it was very dirty... roger said pool sand was great .. mine is beach sand straight from the beach..
yea idk i have a bag of play sand laying around thats why i asked but is sand a pain to clean when it comes time? Cuz i personally think sand gves the tank a better look
Great looking fish Robert....Basically they took one fish and kept renaming it, guess they got bored. Pool sand is good from what I have heard on here. Go to your home improvement store like Home Depot and look for silica sand. Silica sand is what is in my tanks. DO NOT use play sand, too dirty in my opinion, and granuals are too fine when it comes time to clean the tank.
Depends on the sand you get as to how much cleaning of it you will have to do Robert. The silica sand I bought was really clean, I still spent a couple hours on and off cleaning and soaking it though.
me marc .. yes just africans.. no americans well not many for sale around me.. not super common.. i have a friend who is looking everywhere for a texas..
Robert what other home improvement stores do you have? Lowes, Scotties, Menards? Not sure which are up there, I couldn't find much at Home Depot here. Yes much much cheaper than buying sand from lfs. I paid $3.50 for a 50 lb bag of silica sand. I called a swimming pool supply place here and a bag of pool sand was $5.something for a 50lb bag, still cheaper than lfs.
yea i have a lowes up here and some smaller ones like ace hardware. how do u suggest in washing the sand out to make it suitable for the tank tho i cant really think of a way ?
I took an 18 gallong rubbermaid storage container, set it in the tub, poured the sand in, filled the container half way with water and used my hands to stir up the sand over and over, drained it and did it all again. Like shampooing, wash rinse repeat, lol. (I took a clean glass (made sure no soap residue was on it), and scooped up some of the water and held it to the light to see how cloudy it still was or wasn't)
wow good thinking lol never would of thought of that now i have to spend my day running around to get sand tomorrow i wanna have this tank started cycling by sat night or sunday
What size tank do you have now? What size are you looking to get? Will you keep the one you have set up now, still running? Oh and a 50lb bag was way more than enough to do my 30 gallon tank, 2x50lb bags were more than enough to do my 30 gal and my 60 gal, I have approx 20-25lbs left over.
i have a 55 gallon tank,10 gallon quarantine (where the guy above is) and im doing a 40 gallon right now and yes i will be keeping the tank i have now. and wat are the best ways to cycle/get the tank ready?
use some of the water from your tank you have running now.. if your running tank has a removeable filter pad swoosh it in your new tank to transfer some yuk and that will have good bacteria in it.. to get the stuff growing .. and you can buy bio boost, its called that at my lfs full of good bacteria to get it happening..
Thank you very much with this how long will it take to be able to put fish in? and im thinking of putting the Malawis in the 40 gallon would that be to small i only have 3 at the moment but i would like to get about 7 or 8 maybe a lil more?
It took a while to cycle the 55 gal cause you didn't already have an established tank. If you do a partial water change on your 55, keep the water and put it in the new tank. Use old media from the 55 to help cycle the new tank as well.
any info on the size of the tank for the 40 gallon or is it too small? cuz i dont wanna be one of those people with overcrowded tanks that wen i tell people about i get yelled at and look like an amature any help?
my tank was great after doing that i but some cross breeds in two days after set up.. and they helped cycle but the water was great no problems with anything then my other fish went in 7days after... as long as you keep an eye on your ammonia and nitrites and nitrates robert... small malawis go well when there are few of them not overcrowded but they like a few to spread the chasing ...
hey mark someone has to do the dishes.. and it was unlucky me.. husband not here and i dont have a dish washer... my mother in law loves england has been a few times..
SO if i moved the two yellow labs and the ahli into the 40 gallon and got like 2 peacocks and say 1 or 2 blue zebra's is that a good sounding tank?
to much or do they mix well?
that amount sounds ok not sure about the species.. peacocks and yellow labs pretty placid big blue guy is quite pacid just watch he dosent try to eat any little fellows... depends on the zebras some can be very agreessive depending on the breed..
Well i would like to say good night to everyone and thank you for everyones help but its 4:34AM!!!! and i need to sleep have to work in about 3 hours haha on no sleep
yellow labs about 9-10cm... rustys 7-9cm,big blue 12-16cm,cobalt zebra 10-12cm, mooris 16 -20cm, and most peacocks in my book are beween 7cm to 15cm depending on species.. does that help...
I have a cobalt, lab, auratus, 3 acei, Ngara, albino, couple peacocks, 2 botias, ummmm trying to do a mental head count, lol. I'm sure I forgot one or two.
any clue what she is
