I know people are probably going to try and correct me, but I'm just posting the name of what I bought it as...

lol yeah I know they get about 4+ feet! right now he's pretty small and he's in a 94 gallon with a jardini, 2 mayan/red devil hybrids, kigoma frontosa, red texas, 3 s.a.e's and a couple plecos, but I know I will definitely need a much larger tank for these fish but I have some time before they get a good size they are all reasonably small, except the jardini is growing fast!

actually somebody had told me that alligator gars are illegal, but I don't know how true that was, because I found a place that was selling them...lol

More than likely that's a Florida Spotted Gar. Lots of fish stores advertise them as Alligator Gars, but they aren't. Alligator gars would get way too big to feasibly keep in a home aquarium.

I know true alligator gars get HUGE, but I doubt this is a true alligator gar that will be pushin' 10 feet and a couple hundred pounds...

true alligator gars have the bump on the end of the snoute called the 'gar'i had one and it grew an inch a week and would eat a whole pack of smelt every nite, and when they get 12 inch + will try and eat your other fish ,mine is now with a freind which is going to go into a tropical pond 18 feet x 15 feet ,

it wont take long , i had mine at 4 inches and in 2 months it was 16 inches ,they are great fish and i miss mine ,a true prehistoric fish which you might never have again ,enjoy it :)

you could check by looking at its mouth ,bottom jaw has 1 row of teeth but upper jaw has 2 rows of teeth, females can live upto 50 years males 26 years.

he's already growing like crazy, it seems like almost an inch since I've gotten him 2 weeks ago, he eats goldfish already like no other...!

R.I.P. my mayan/red devil ripped this guys bottom jaw off and he was a goner...
